Police in Omitama, Ibaraki Prefecture, have arrested a man for killing his girlfriend's father.

According to police, the 40-year-old man attacked and strangled his girlfriend's 78-year-old father at his home on Sunday morning, TBS reported.

Police quoted the suspect as saying that his girlfriend's father was so ill that couldn't even leave his bedroom. "It was so sad, I thought I would be doing him a favor," he said.

Atleast he meant well but there had to be a better way to handle it. I wonder How the gf felt about it.

Don't really know what to say about this. Seems the guy felt sorry for the old man and wanted to see his misery come to an end. The question is: did the old man want to die? I also wonder how the daughter feels.

Or did he just wanted the money, or dad didn't like you going out with his daughter?

Or could it be he wanted more of his girlfriend's attention?

Or maybe he wanted the dad out of the way so he could continue the relationship.

The mercy killing plea only works if the person wants to die. Sounds as if this idiot wanted to kill him just for the hell of it.

If he really wanted to do him a favor, why not take him to a hospital?

You know..this is....(sigh) Whatever!

This man is the product of a social environment that greatly devalues the life of people with disability.

This may also be because he knows he would end up having to look after the old man if he marries his girlfriend, I can only believe it to be a mercy killing if there's a written note written and signed by the deceased beforehand and that it can be proven without doubt that it is the writing of a willing person (i.e. not coerced into writing it). Even then, strangling wouldn't have been a very peaceful way of 'snuffing him out'.

“It was so sad, I thought I would be doing him a favor,” he said.

If it was euthanasia, why does the article say "attacked"? Is the guy trying to make excuses? Or was the writer a little over-exuberant?

I am smelling something money-related too
