Man arrested for strangling wife in Kawasaki

KANAGAWA —

Police on Sunday arrested a 68-year-old man for allegedly strangling his 72-year-old wife at their apartment in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. Masaaki Yoshimura was arrested for strangling his wife Junko Lee with a necktie on the morning of Aug 5. Her body was found by a caregiver the same day.

Yoshimura had been on run ever since and was spotted by police at Keikyu Kawasaki station on Sunday. Yoshimura told police that he killed his wife because she had been suffering mental deterioration and he had no income. He also told police he had been staying in hotels in Tokyo and Saitama until his arrest.

Why does this happen so often in Japan? There are two or three cases of old people killing their spouses every month.

The article indicates that he said his wife's mental health was deteriorating, and he had no income. Apparently she was becoming senile, and he didn't think he could care for her any longer.

It's hard enough, with the extremely limited medical, counseling, and other resources available in Japan, to care for the mentally ill when one *has *money. I can't condone his action, but neither is it impossible for me to understand how he might have given in to desperation.

I have been very upset at certain moments, generated enough energy to easily strangle my wife. I would never do it though unless I were going senile. I wouldn't blame it on her... unless I were senile.

Ending this post with "a 68 yr old man on the run" would be better than "Poe and the crow"

    ... in peace Junko Lee.

he had no income. He also told police he had been staying in hotels in Tokyo and Saitama until his arrest.

So if he had no income then where did he get the money to stay at hotels in Tokyo and Saitama until he was arrested?????
