Man arrested for threatening woman with knife in Tokyo elevator
TOKYO —
A 57-year-old man was arrested for attempted robbery on Tuesday, accused of putting a knife to a 35-year-old woman who was riding the same elevator in the Yurakucho Mullion building in Chiyoda Ward.
Police said Kiyokazu Oura, an unemployed man of no fixed address, put a knife to the woman’s body at around 5.30 p.m. and asked her if she had any money. They said the woman was able to escape from the elevator on the 9th floor unharmed, and ask for help. Police rushed to the scene and arrested Oura, and are investigating if he has committed any other similar crimes.

In a lift? Are you mad? I have seen one used in a room, thankfully I was near the door but still came out crying. I can’t imagine what being trapped in a lift would be like.

yes and call the police immediately after that and it is up to the police and the doctors to decide where the loser will have to live his life - in a mental institution or prison. Nowadays the mental cases are increasing though, so I bet he will stay in a facility for the mental cases.

J women always look so helpless and I'm surprised that this one managed to get out on 9th floor and called the Police...how did she do it...?

Would have been ineffective anyway. The fact he had to use a knife only proves he he doesn't have any.

If NTV is a non-governmental entity, NTV can tell the gov to bite themselves.

Can you generalize a bit more? Oh wait, I think that's not possible unless you count all women in as well!

Probably not even the same guy... Just some bum hanging around... The bumbling bicycle police just picked up who-ever was stupid enough to be hanging around there... For all they know, they're now interrogating the Janitor...
But don't worry, Japanese Finest are on it! They'll get him to break, even if they have to put a few cops to sleep with laced-tea...
LOL...

Prize for brains! How long is an elevator ride(A), How long before someone else enters and elevator (B), How long does it take for a J woman to find some money under all those mirrors, makeup and Hello Kitty towels(C). A=45 secs...

I have to say the economy is really starting to take its toll on Japan - stabbings and other general absurd happenings give me the feeling that the realities of life are really hitting society. Seems more prevalent than when I first arrived back in the mid 90s.

Police rushed to the scene and arrested Oura, and are investigating if he has committed any other similar crimes... Good move cops keep it this way! They were on time to aprehend offender. I would like to spend with him alone for five minutes in a dark room before cops will chage him. My service will be free of charge.

Well, LoveUSA asked "Why men are such losers?" ... I only see one man here being talked about, not ALL men in general. Warning! Before entering JT please leave your common sense outside and put your "generalization & prejudice helmet" on!

Thankfully the perp wasn't all that interested in murder. I have no idea how the woman would have gotten away unharmed if he had been.

hmm.. just got a brilliant idea for an investment idea in japan. A new Mental health clinic.... I could be a millionaire in a couple of years. Seriously, with the current state of things, I would have to say Mental Health clinics are the wave of the future here.
