Man arrested in Ibaraki hit-and-run
IBARAKI —
Police on Thursday arrested a 40-year-old man over a fatal hit-and-run accident in Ryugasaki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, early Thursday morning.
According to police, Park Chang Sung, a Korean construction worker who lives in the area, is suspected of hitting 23-year-old Miyuki Kirihara with his truck while she was walking along a road at about 1 a.m.
Police said marks on the road indicate that the truck hit Kirihara and dragged her for 300 meters. Later, police discovered the truck nearby Park’s house.
Park was quoted as saying he lost control of the truck and hit the woman. “I panicked and just kept going,” he was quoted as saying.

By the way, what was this woman doing out at 1 am? Was she drunk?? I would not be surprised if she was so drunk that she had no idea she went on to a road, and it sounds like this Korean dude was drunk too!

scum, hope he gets a decent sentence, not some mere 5 or 6 years. It'd be unbelievable if he gets a suspended sentence. RIP young lady

He lost control? I would guess that he was staring at that woman, hoping for a thumb to suddenly point skyward, and was lost in fantasy. Sounds like what he lost control of was himself, not the car. It also sounds like he was fully aware he hit someone and it was completely his fault. Had he just stopped and released her from the vehicle it might have saved her life even if he fled from that point. But to just drive on? All told, unforgivable.

The woman was walking home from work. She worked in a restaurant. Most likely she would have preferred a better job, but given the current economic reality, people accept whatever job they can find. Taking a taxi would have saved her life, but also would have cost her several hours' pay.

Another sad end to a life so young and full of hope.
dearjohn, your "guess" has no basis of fact to it and, as such, is its own little fantasy. Regain control of yourself and stay on the "road" to proper cause and effect.

My guess is clearly stated as being a guess, so what your issue is is hard to understand. Oh wait! Why am I guessing? The article is so rich in details! No its not. The only reason given for him hitting the woman was "losing control of the truck". How? South Ibaraki does not often get ice and snow on the roads, or oil slicks. The roads can be narrow but they are all in good condition. I think my explanation is the best we will see being based on what little we know.
