Man arrested over hit-and-run that left victim's body in drainage ditch

IBARAKI —

A 45-year-old man has been arrested over the hit-and-run death of a man whose body was found in a drainage ditch in Tsuchiura, Ibaraki Prefecture, on Nov 29.

According to NTV, the suspect—who is the manager of a restaurant—has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license. Police say they believe the victim was struck in the early morning hours of Nov 26 and fell into the ditch where his body was found three days later.

Investigators discovered a vehicle with damage consistent with such an accident near the scene, and determined it belonged to the accused, NTV reported.

Well, theres the reason he didnt stop for starters. If it was him I hope they sling him in jail and let him rot. And if it is proven that the guy would have survived had it been called in immediately charge him with murder. Its about time they got tougher on hit and runs. Make the penalty for running worse than the penalty for stopping.

Make the penalty for running worse than the penalty for stopping.

The problem is that people in a panic think they can get away with it if they run. The truth is that most hit-and-runs (over 90%) do get caught eventually.

Maybe he will claim he was drunk and does not remember doing it.

”Make the penalty for running worse than the penalty for stopping.”

It is already, so don't worry. It may only apply where the difference is stopping at an accident being drunk or turning yourself in the next day being sober. You may be able to get a lighter sentence but the opposite is true in most cases so do stop when you have an accident. People may get the wrong idea.

Totally disagree with u Mexico. U obviously havent travelled the world. Still one of the best 1st world countries ive lived in in terms of driving. But the only minus is running red lights and childrens seat belts and traffic laws that give pedestrians the full right, police, and traditions that date back to the samurai. Other than that, in a small country with a pop of 120 million...ver very safety ;) country especially on streets.

I agree with you NARUHODO. Yes MEXICANO, there are idiot drivers in Japan too as there are snakes in every forest. But talking about SAFETY, Japan is still safer compared to other countries.
