Man arrested over Meguro murder says Ebizo news gave him idea for location

TOKYO —

A 65-year-old man arrested for allegedly murdering an 87-year-old man at the entrance to his house in January told police he chose Meguro after continuous TV reports about kabuki star Ebizo Ichikawa’s residency in the same area, investigators said Thursday.

Ebiizo, who lives in a luxurious house in Meguro, was the subject of non-stop daily reportage after a bar brawl in November last year. “Filled with reporters and constantly on TV, Meguro seemed to be a very popular residential area,” the suspect, Yoshiaki Kimura, was quoted by police as saying.

A man resembling Kimura was caught on security cameras around Naka-Meguro station on two occasions before the crime.
