Man attacks customer with key in convenience store

Police in Tokyo's Kita Ward said Saturday they are searching for a man who hit a customer with a key in a convenience store.

The victim, a male in his 20s, was standing in the convenience store reading a magazine at around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, when the seemingly unprovoked attack occurred, TBS reported. CCTV camera footage showed the assailant walk into the store and hit the victim on the back of the head with a key he was holding in his fist.

The assailant then left the store, followed by the victim, and fled the scene on a bicycle. Police said they are using the store's CCTV footage to try and identify the assailant and the victim.

Suckerpunches can be brutal.

What a coward to hit someone from behind and then run away..!

Yea, lock him up and throw away the key!!

not as many bad key jokes as I had feared... just a couple.

After watching the video(thanks crazyjoe), I would have to conclude that the assailant was jealous or mad about something the guy did, OR if they didn't know each other, then the victim is a complete p%$$# for doing virtually nothing about it.

Also I can never understand why guys do tachiyomi, how they just perpetually stand there reading a manga or magazine, completely self-absorbed and unaware of their surroundings. In that case, it's pretty easy to get snuffed in the back of the head.

Are we sure that the victim isn't a woman? Looks like a domestic to me.....

Unprovoked? Random attacks do happen, but if the "victim" really was just a random target, he likely wouldve reported it. Anyway, rather cop a key than a bullet...

Lovers' tiff

What a waste of police time trying to identify these two. I don't think that this incident would even be a story deemed worthy of news status in most countries (apart from the youtube video). Stabbed in the back or clobbered with a hammer in a mugging maybe, but tapped on the back of the head in what seems to be some kind of personal spat, I don't think so.

"Are we sure that the victim isn't a woman?"

Yeah, he's a man. And it looks like he chased the attacker after he started riding away on his bicycle.

Billy, I'm very happy that this incident made the national news and the police is investigating it, because it clearly proves we live in a very safe country

Yea, lock him up and throw away the key!!

But it's key evidence.

People are getting attacked with anything these days...

Am I seeing more violence in Japan these days?

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Not more violence but reporting has become quicker and more detailed.

Key blades are pretty strong!

Victime was standing a in combini reading a magazine. Shame about the attack, but bigger question is how publisahers make money when most magazines are read for free and not bought.

Does anybody know how anyone knows that it was a key?

Does anybody know how anyone knows that it was a key?

Probably a few key witnesses.

Maybe he was trying to unlock his potential.

From the vid it looks like a lovers' spat. The vic didn`t wash the dishes or something like that!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Hard to tell if they knew each other or not from the vid. It certainly looks like there was an issue before that, but possibly random.

That kind of strike, in this country, looks very much like an older person or a teacher saying "pay attention!" or "Don't talk back!" to someone, but a little stronger. I thought maybe the guy who got hit had cut him off on his bicycle or something like that.

Some kind of lovers' dispute like infidelity would look much messier, and the guy doing the hitting wouldn't just strike, glare and walk away, they would stay and warn the guy not to come again, or try to impress his feeling of rage and humiliation onto the guy. imo, anyway.

Yes because getting hit on the back of the head by strangers is something that regularly happens and thus 100 mill people should totally build their entire lives' activities around avoiding it.
