Man gets 18 years in prison for killing ex-girlfriend

A 35-year-old man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing his ex-girlfriend in 2014.

The Yokohama District Court handed the sentence down Friday against Seiji Kamioka who was convicted of killing his former girlfriend, Ayana Yoshida, 26, Fuji TV reported.

Yoshida's body, wrapped in a vinyl sheet and blanket, was found floating in the Sagami River in Hiratsuka on Nov 5, 2014. A woman who saw the story on the TV news later that day called police to say that the victim might be her friend Yoshida, of Atsugi, who disappeared on Oct 27.

Yoshida had been beaten about the head several times.

The victim's mother said that on the day Ayana disappeared, her daughter told her she was going over to Kamioka's place to pick up her belongings. She never returned.

A DNA test of bloodstains found on the front passenger seat of Kamioka's car matched Yoshida's blood type, prosecutors said.

Yoshida and Kamioka had been in a relationship since 2012. However, in the late summer of 2014, Yoshida broke off the relationship and consulted police about Kamioka beating her.

Years to serve in prison here make no sense at all.

shonanbb: No kidding. Like I said, I think they just put all crimes and all sentences in two jars and draw a crime and punishment paper at the same time. At least we're starting to see murderers get longer sentences on the whole over the last little while.

Anyway, the police should also have been reprimanded at the very least, for not doing anything about it after the girl had reported being beaten. There is far too much "after the fact" stuff here when such murders could be prevented.

Good to see a proper sentence for murder. When guys get off in 5 years here it really boggles my mind.

If we keep campaigning for JUSTICE for our victims, it will come!!

It's good to see some lengthy sentences being handed down for these cowardly murders. However, I doubt if it will act as a deterrent to stop these cowardly crimes of passion happening. At least these losers are taken off the streets for half of their lives.

Crimes of mad insane passion can never be stopped. But murder should result in the death sentence for the prep.

18 years is completely insufficient. after he gets out and gets his freedom back her family is still grieving and her life is still snuffed out because of his selfish stupidity. Life in prison or even better hang the life from him. He has nothing to offer the world.

" Hang 'em HIGH "

Very sad that going to the police for help about domestic violence didn't work out for Yoshida-san.
