He is not mentally incompetent but Japanses justice system is mentally incompetent.

You can see these days all these criminals/murderers escape the death sentence or life sentence with a very easy excuse "he/she was in a state of diminished capacity at the time of the murder and was in a state of insanity when he dismembered his sister’s body".

he was in a state of diminished capacity at the time of the murder and was in a state of insanity when he dismembered his sister’s body.

This is the most populer words of defendants lawyers in Japan now.

If you murder somebody, as a general rule, you should get a good 20 years to life, with adjustments made for the circumstances of the crime.

If you murder somebody, but are ruled mentally incompetant, you should get a good 20 years to life in a mental hospital, with adjustments made for the patient's mental condition.

Generally they seem to reduce the setence for killing someone in your family, versus killing a stranger.

Hmmm...a nasty though occurred to me - maybe that's because the killer may have to look after the family in their old age - if they reach old age!

Too mild punishment for such crime I think. At the same time as mafiosi who killed authority in Nagasaki got execution punishment.

judicial system never works as we would like it to. If it did no country would have drug lords, king pins, arms dealers and all those people that lurk in the back streets of society that roam free to do what they please. Mind you Japan's judicial system is rather straight forward and you can guess the outcome whether for better or worse while some countries it just comes down to how much money you have. What I do hate is politician, police, civil servants and the likes getting off easy especially when your dad is in a high position.

cue the sinister music.... Just by looking at this guy you have to figure he's guilty. And what's with the mental competency bit? Obvisously to kill and butcher your sister you're nuts but should still go away for life.

Gee, what I don't understand (like I should)is okay he murdered her, but why do they always have to dismember the body. What's up with that? Like killing her/him wasn't enough. I know this happens elsewhere but I seem to see this sort of thing in Japan repeatedly.

  • Blue_Tiger at 06:58 AM JST - 29th May

KitsuneYoukai - Trying to hide the evidence, perhaps? Either way, this dude pretty-much gets to walk after 7. A Travesty of justice, I say again....

WoW! You call 7 yrs in prison, for cutting up someone's body, JUSTICE?!! The minimum for killing (20 yrs.) isn't suffient enough for this guy! JEEZ! I think after Japan get things sorted out with the suicide and killing then maybe,... just maybe will I go there.

Its just sad to see the system that allows killers to "reform" with a sentence of 7yrs, they believe he will be a positive member of society after that and then he can continue with his life long love of dental care, secretly killing again and again(or his other self). This is a sick world we live in and you know what, it will only get worse. Its all BS!!!
