Glad they gave him life, although I would prefer without the possibility of parole.
If anyone is interested, here's an article from a Honolulu newspaper on this story.

Way to go prosecutors and experts, because this creep didn't have a 'significant history' (what the heck does that mean, so there's a history of insignificant violence, ridiculous) of violence, parole is possible. Which means most likely. So according to this creep she killed herself by jumping out of his truck? Yup, I sure believe that one. He should be fried.

What a scum bag piece of trash.... I think they should send him to Japan to be tried in a Japanese court in Yokosuka OR better yet Okinawa.....Stir up the Naha media for a couple weeks and then tell that racist Okinawa Governor that the U.S. Military wants to take more land from farmers....
Now I pay money to see that....

CSI - They found the woman's blood and glasses in his company truck. Also, a witness saw the woman getting into his company truck. Another witness saw him trying to dig a hole in the ground in a remote location in the middle of the night.
If anyone wants to know more about this case, go to Honolulu Starbulletin and seach for "Lankford" on the website.

Personally, I think he should have gotten the death penalty.

mindovermatter, are you nuts? He might get off scott free if they send him there, but its just speculation since its never gonna happen. Can't charge a person for a crime commited against a Japanese on American soil. Only the US system can try and convict him.
Anyways, this guy is another freakin' ass that got what he worked for. US prisons ain't nice at all either.

True, American Prisons are not nice. Besides, when you look at comparable crimes, say if a foreign girl had been killed by a Japanese guy, you'll see that this is much more severe a punishment then you'd have gotten in Japan.
Overall, I agree, the life without the possibility of parole would have been better, but this is a good and reasonable sentence.

I think they should have let him swim with the sharks.
