Man gunned down in Fukuoka Pref
FUKUOKA —
Police said Monday that a man died after being shot with a handgun outside an apartment building in Chikushino, Fukuoka Prefecture, on Sunday.
According to police, a nearby resident reported finding the man, who was wearing manual laborer clothes, lying motionless on the ground at around 3:40 p.m., TBS reported. Police say the victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.
Police said he died late Sunday. He has been identified as Mitsumasa Eto, 65, a former member of a yakuza gang, TBS quoted police as saying.

I saw that, that was 5 min from my place. In LA, I am a bit used to ghetto birds flying around and heavy police siren, but here in Japan and of all places Chikushino?! I was completely blown away!

As long as it is between the yakuza and nobody else. Guns are not that difficult to come by or manufacture, it is probably harder to get ammo unless you make those yourself as well. Fortunately most people in Japan do not have a desire to own a handgun or semi automatic. To suggest making guns legal is crazy. It's bad enough that you can buy a knife at a 100 yen shop, but to make it easier for any insane person is just asking for it.

I just don't see the issue, maybe I am just a stupid American, but where I grew up I was using guns since I was 12 years old. I never did anything stupid with them because of being taught to respect them. And had proper supervision. I am sure that plenty of people disagree with this but with proper regulations and procurement processes like background checks etc.. it is perfectly reasonable for guns to be legal.

This may be true to an extent, but I don't think that the answer is to legalize guns. In fact, if what you say is true, "it's those who wield them with that intent", then NOBODY should be allowed to have guns, no?

they are legal in Japan. Handguns aren't cause no one goes hunting with a pistol. What other need is there for fire arms other than hunting?

What was he doing working? Easy. Supporting himself. Probably has never paid a dime into the pension system and needs money. The government needs to crack down on construction companies hiring people under the table instead of raising taxes!
