Something very strange about this story. The son lived away from home for twenty years, and couldn't wait to leave the family reunion. He didn't seem to want anything to do with the family, or property. I'm thinking he was set up.

Agreed. There must be a part of the story that was left out.

Nah, the case is closed. The cops yelled at the guy 'You did it didn't you! You were angry, right?!! You were angry!!' And then they released a statement saying that the man said he was angry and he did it. Otsukare sama.

Ah, but he was the younger brother.

Pathetic and sad. 20years, uhm... it would have been wiser to just stay the hell away, now his arse is up for murder.

for 20 years he let it fester. unforgiveness is as bad as cancer.

most japanese really need heart a big one, full of love, care and sympathy. they really need help. this country is loosing a lot of their nationals by killing their own, baby boomers are retiring, age gap is also a concern, an aging society. they need to really work hard about these issues too.

On the telly they said that he called the police himself and said 'I killed my mother. I had a grudge against her'.

Holding a grudge is not the same as being angry.

JT really does need to get its translations more accurate.

Cleo, I bet he really did have a grudge against her and it had been festering inside him all those years. Something she said must have set off the pent-up anger.

Imagine if she had said, "Your older brother will look after me in my old age, so I am leaving everything to him. You will have to work for your living, so never expect any help from your mother or your family."

    nanda -

Apparently he said, urami ga atta, which suggests to me that he came home with the intention of at least 'having it out' with his mother, if not killing her. It doesn't sound to me as if it was a jolly family reunion that went bad.

From the look of the house, it's not likely she had all that much to leave in a will...

Soooooo many mother issues in this country. Freud would be in heaven! Freud and Western society focus on daddy issues. If this was a daddy thing in the US, if son came back and killed daddy, then would it make the national news?

    Thanks Cleo.

    Agreed

He made big mistake. If he didn't see her for so many years why bother to see her now to me this is premeditated murder. On the other hand there must be a serious reason for killing her, not just because of the dinner. His reason to kill her, he is the only one that has reason for motive. Sure he will eventually tell us his true story.

Could he be a survivor of child abuse who tried to tried to air his grievances with his mother while she was still alive... and ended up killing her? Given her age and the 20 years separation, it's a possibility.
