Simple reason for the aggresion from non-smokers is this. If someone tries to strangle you from breathing oxygen, which is an absolute necessity to keep the human body functioning naturally wouldn't you be pretty peeved at the person taking away your right to breathe?

A nicotine addict would only become agitated if their fix was taken away from them. Somewhere in their lifetime they thought smoking was either cool, or picked up the habit from parents/peers, or sadly picked it up as a way to ease stress.

The fault with your reasoning is non-smokers do not exhale oxygen, does that mean you are taking away a smokers right to breathe??

There's nothing wrong with a little second-hand smoke. The more they're exposed to it, the sooner they'll start enjoying it and then there'll be no problems for anyone.

what a horrible attitude. let me try it, the sooner you get cancer and shuffle this mortal coil the better. howzat?

The obvious point here is humans rely on plant life more than other humans for survival regarding oxygen. Oh and since fossil fueled cars are the leading source of damage to everyones lungs let's just do away with our cars shall we? Finally let's make sure the threatening man gets educated but never gets a gun.

Kavikahi, there is a big difference between exhaling carbon dioxide (which is NATURAL if you haven't paid attention in biology class) and disspates rather quickly and exhaling a CONTROLLABLE poisonous substance (Carbon monoxide) that takes a while to dissipate. What planet are you from?

You also seem to forget that car companies seem to be working on alternatives for fossil fuels. Electric cars, Hydrogen cars, hybrids... wow, amazing that some people actually trying to make the air breathable as much as possible.

I don't care if people smoke, I just don't want to be smoking the residue with some smokers inconsideration which unfortunately I've had so many instances that I could write a book. As hope for both smokers and non smokers some places are peddling the "Smokeless" cig so people can get their fix without bothering others without the annoying side effects on others.

I agree with you about the book and we both know nicotine does not need to be inhaled for physical consumption. As for the car companies, the electric alternative has been available since the automobiles birth. How many ev's are in use? Still want to pat their backs? Biology class should teach both smokers and non smokers exhale oxygen around what? 14%, decreasing the emission of carbon gasses is not the only problem. Neither you or the Governer emit acceptable o2 levels for me, shall I get my gun? Aggression is not my answer, it is a problem usually, like the threatening man.

I have no problem with smokers, just don`t do it anywhere near me. Especially when I am very obviously pregnant, with a young child, sitting on a bench minding my own business - have a little common sense and go somewhere else.

It would also be much appreciated if you didn`t walk down the street in front of me holding a cigarette on a windy day so the ash blows straight back into my pram and all over my baby.

I think Kira raises a very valid point, if smoking is legal how can I legally protect a newborn or minor from second hand smoke?

That is why some countries have smoking bans in certain areas. Japan doesn't have many laws regarding this and this guy flipped out because they're trying to enforce these much needed laws.

Japanese govenment does not enforce the smoking ban on certain areas due cigerattes being a major source of tax revenue, especially during the difficult economy. Same with alcohol, another major tax revenue.

i like it how he texted the prime minister of japan.

This news is unique to me because aggression from non smokers and anti smoking supporters seems much more common than aggression from smokers.

Smoking in public is an act of aggression. There is no need to get bogged down in the science of oxygen content or carcinogen emissions. It just plain stinks, and it's rude. There is no similarly irritating custom allowed in polite society. One may not ruin others' meals by defecating in a dining area; there's a place for that. Same with cigarettes: away from other people. One may not blow off steam by shouting obscenities at others in the vicinity because it feels good.

I hate smoke and smokers! I hope this guy from Ehime gets the death sentence before he dies of lung cancer!
