Man held over theft of Y4.8 mil from Tokyo university campuses
TOKYO —
Police said Thursday they have arrested a 51-year-old man for allegedly stealing cash from at least 16 university campuses in and around Tokyo.
Police said the man, identified as Norio Ogura, was originally arrested for a theft which took place at Tokyo University’s Komaba campus in Nakameguro, TV Asahi reported. While in police custody, Ogura reportedly confessed to stealing from at least 16 other university campuses and university hospitals.
Police believe Ogura stole a total of around 4.8 million yen in around 50 separate thefts which he carried out between February and December of this year, TV Asahi said.

Why oh why doesn't this story include his modus operendus? I mean, HOW was he managing to do this? Was he finding piles of loot sitting on the tables of professors? WHAT?

he was a nicely dressed dude blending with the people at the Uni. we are not very safety conscious on the campus, and he was preying on people leaving their wallets for a moment, etc.
