Police in Tokyo's Shibuya Ward have arrested an unemployed 39-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting and stealing money from a woman whom he met through an online dating site.

According to police, the suspect, Takashi Shimazu, met up with the 26-year-old woman and they went to a hotel in Shibuya last November, Fuji TV reported. Police said Shimazu chocked the woman until she started to pass out. However, the woman regained consciousness and went after Shimazu who left the room with her wallet that had 200,000 yen in cash. He then hit her and pushed her away.

Shimazu was quoted by police as saying he was heavily in debt. He said he liked the woman and wanted to date her but got upset when she asked him for money.

Hotel on the first date. What an easy babe.

My guess is that it was a "pay for play" type service and he wanted to rip her off. I am sure that the gambling debt that he probably owes will get increased since if it was as I suggested, those very same "businessmen" will extract a heavy toll on him for messing with one of their "assets."

Sounds like the Republican party's treatment of the American worker.

Why did she have so much 円 on her person?

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Yeah, that is quite a bit of dough to carry around on a date. enjokosai...?

Scammed. Why so much cash? He was her 4th mark that night maybe ? What a super women!! Getting up after nearly getting choked to death and chases him so to get the cash back. Wow, I amazed at this lovely lady commitment for her hard earned cash.

Working girl. This was likely not her first gig of the day.

Strangulation then can be seen as attempted murder, robbery assault and battery. A length conviction should be more than certain.

Somehow I think he asked her to bring the money and it was going to be a scam that turned into attempted murder. He may have attempted it in the past and finally had a taker.

Yeah, she was working alright. Going straight to the hotel on the first date, from an on-line dating gig? Japanese women are still living off the fat-of-the-land huh. . .

Yeah, i don't think it was a 'dating' website he met her on. Why were they at a hotel and why was she asking him for money? Dating? I think not!

he met through an online dating site

Well then, generally speaking, he met her somewhere on-line (according to the article). LoL) How does an unemployed guy prepare to go out on a date anyways? It's not like like can talk about how fulfilling your career is.

Hold on a minute here.

So what if a woman wants to have sex on a first date. So what if she met him on an internet dating site. She is an adult. This guy choked her and robbed her of Y200,000! That's attempted murder in many jurisdictions.

I can't believe that the woman is being criticised here. For most of us guys getting sex on a first date and getting a date from an internet site gets credibility points.

Good to see the majority of comments here are about degrading the woman for being at a hotel on the first date and not for the guy for choking and robbing her.

Exactly. The sexist female-phobic comments on here are pathetic. And even if she was a 'working girl' (its the oldest profession my friends), does that mean a potential strangler/ robber gets to roam free!

I was genuinely curious why anyone needs to carry 200,000 en with them, working girl or not. I have no control over what subsequent posters had in mind.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It was not directed at you AGYWE. Although the concentration seems to be on the amount of cash the girl had, rather than on the potential psycopath.

Don't have a misogynist bone in my body and surely hope the "john" will pay a just price for his crime - she apparently, committed no wrongdoing. I do have a problem with recklessness and stupidity, which she is likely guilty of. It can be a dangerous world out there, says this father of an 18-year old girl.

The nature of the woman is the most interesting part of this story, that's why the comments are focused on her. The culprit just sounds like yet another unemployed guy dissatisfied with his lot in life taking out his frustrations on someone who in no way deserves it. It's sad but seems relatively common in these types of crime stories.

But regarding the woman, yeah, sorry but there are questions to be asked about 1.) why she was carrying so much money and 2.) why she allegedly asked the perpetrator for even more money. It's not about blaming/criticising her, it's about understanding what actually happened.

Unless you think that the answers to these questions would somehow exonerate the man, the answers are none of any of our businesses.

Strangerland: As I said, it's about understanding what happened. And probably 99% of all non-political/non-weather news stories could be described as 'none of any of our businesses', that doesn't mean we won't (or shouldn't) question the details presented.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

The better understanding you seek has no relevance to the story at hand, as it wouldn't exonerate the man. The fact is it doesn't matter how much money she had or why she has it - none of it would justify him choking her out.

Maybe people are talking about her cause prostitution is illegal in Japan. If proven she was trying to get money, she will be charged too.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Readers, no more negative comments about the victim, please. It's not nice.

No its not. The only thing illegal in Japan is vaginal sex, ehich is how all the red light businesses skirt the law.

There is only one criminal in this story, sneering at the girl is very misguided and unfair.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

Yes, whatever the woman was up to, assaulting and stealing money from her is a criminal wrongdoing. At any rate, it was good for her to come around and escape death in any way.

Thats really bad..... Women need to be careful and please no sex on dates.... we are a conservative society!

Women need to be careful and please no sex on dates....

No sex on dates? Erm, when is it supposed to happen then?

we are a conservative society!

Not really. Unwilling to talk? Yeah. Unwilling to provide? Nope.

What a piece of slime. At least she can identify the scumbag meaning more chance of catching him.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

People are just trying to identify how she's asking him for money when she's carrying 200,000 yen in cash on her

Lostrune:

...and that is so much not the issue. Asking someone for money should not be an issue.... strangling and robbing someone should be.

Maybe she got the 200000 yen from another date on the same day. Good he got caught aftermath.

Never treated it as an issue. But us humans are curious creatures
