Man secretly videos 2,000 women in public toilet; sells DVDs of footage

Police have arrested an office worker in Kadoma, Osaka Prefecture, for committing lewd acts after it was discovered he had installed hidden cameras in a women's toilet.

According to NTV, the suspect, who has been identified as Toshiyuki Morikawa, 26, allegedly installed the cameras in the partition walls of female toilet stalls in a shopping mall and used them to take video of women, which he then sold online. Police believe up to 2,000 women may have been filmed by Morikawa over a two-year period.

After filming the woman, Morikawa would then burn the video on DVDs and sell an hour's worth of footage for 10,000 yen, NTV quoted police as saying.

A source close to the investigation told reporters that Morikawa is believed to have sold the DVDs to members of an Internet group dedicated to peep photos. During police questioning, Morikawa told investigators that over the course of two years, he made up to 4.5 million yen selling the DVDs, NTV reported.

why in the world would anyone want to watch someone urinating or defecating? it's just so sick. yuck!

This sums up Japan in so many ways!

-8 ( +9 / -17 )

Ugh. Complete disregard for these women's privacy and dignity. Why would you even consider doing something so wretched? It'd be one thing if he was doing it for personal use (still reprehensible and disgusting on so many levels), but then he had to go that extra, repulsive mile to make money off of it. I hope he rots.

Hahaha! I dunno what that perv perp is talking about! Pretty women don't do those disgusting things! Lalalalalalala!

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

Why would anyone pay for that ? It's beyond me, sigh

1 ( +7 / -6 )

Yokoso Japan!

-4 ( +7 / -11 )

I feel sorry for the cops who had to watch this sh**.

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Luckily for Japan, news about perverts and baby killers is never picked up by the western media, preserving the noble and pristine perception of the Japanese.

-1 ( +8 / -9 )

THIS IS JAPAN

1 ( +9 / -8 )

Why on earth would you pay money to watch such crap? Even if it were free it's still something I would never watch, and I can't understand those who do (without the other party's consent, I might add). Glad they caught the guy, but I'm curious about what his punishment will be.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

Glad they caught the guy, but I'm curious about what his punishment will be.

He should be sentenced to a lifetime of cleaning toilets. Then again - this Morikawa bloke and his many fellow perverts here may just get off on that!

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Why on earth would you pay money to watch such crap?

Ironically, it is exactly that that people who purchased it wanted to watch.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

My advice to people who want to see such things -- here's a way to get it for free: Get married, and live in a small apartment. After 18 months (or less) your bride will unaffectedly perform for you without any concerns over being observed.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

Mysterious Japanese soul... I, for myself, won't stand even a SECOND of watching such crap... I'll just puke...

In clinical psychology this type of psycho-sexual disorder is voyeurism, the sexual interest in or practice of spying on people engaged in intimate behavior or other activity considered to be of a private nature. In popular imagination the term is used in a more general sense to refer to someone who habitually observes others without their knowledge and there is no necessary implication of any sexual interest. There is no scientific consensus concerning the basis for voyeurism. Thus voyeurism is a worldwide phenomenon and can be treated by modifying existing patterns of behavior and participating in behavioral therapy. Sadly the prognosis for eliminating voyeurism is poor.

I wonder if there are some women who get off on seeing a man on the crapper reading a newspaper with his pants round his ankles. Shouldn't think so, though. Strange world.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

just who is sicker - the one taking the videos or the ones buying them. it is a tie for me. sick sick sick

0 ( +4 / -4 )

This kind of thing is sick, but I don´t think it is typical Japanese. Unless the perp is a policeman...

3 ( +8 / -5 )

@ akkk1 "Luckily for Japan, news about perverts and baby killers is never picked up by the western media, preserving the noble and pristine perception of the Japanese." I often wondered why it isn't also....perhaps the strong yen? or media control...

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I always try to check for hidden cameras in public toilets and even in onsens.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Sorry doesn't turn me on at all! Whenever I pass a 'boy's ' public, toilet which for some reason without any neck stretching or other Yoga moves, is quite easy to get a glimpse of some guy stood spraying the name of his beloved into the urinal, my immediate reaction is to jerk my head the other way...... as opposed to other body parts! Maybe I am just not raunchy enough!

0 ( +1 / -1 )

A day in the life of Japan.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

But that said, if it is consensual, blah blah....

But it wasn't. Some 2,000 women used the toilet not knowing they were being filmed. There was no consent. This is not the same as persuading 'some girl' to let you watch her urinate. Ignorance is bliss?....No.

Intolerance of some bloke taking secret videos in the toilet? You bet. How about a bit of tolerance for people with the strange fetish of wanting to use the loo in private?

(Cats excepted, of course. If you don't let them in, they yowl the place down)

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Interesting.

I can't think of many places to hide a camera/s in a public toilet booth that a customer or cleaning staff won't soon detect.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Yeah, so filming and selling DVDs is illegal. We all know that, but shouldn't buying them be illegal too? Something like, dealing in proceeds of a crime. If he made 4.5M yen from them that is a thousand DVDs. I fear the prisons in Japan would not be big enough if they started rounding up all the perverted sickos.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Sexuality, sexual desires cannot be sublimated oppressed. Like a volcano the more it is quashed the bigger the eruption is.

In a cold, soulless, mechanized, over-regulated society full with empty annoying rituals like it is here, where even married couples have no sexual life (average statistic you can read anywhere) and people live in sexual misery, they get sickos and aberrant in many different way.

Nothing to be surprised about.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

Just shows you what a perverted country this is. As TMT says, nothing to be surprised about. Japan will destroy Japan.

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Love to be able to shove this perverts head down an unflushed toilet

1 ( +2 / -1 )

Gross man. Too bad Japan doesn't have a Dateline "How to catch a predator" and nip these guys while they're running these sleazeball operations

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Sick freaks

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Why the anti-Japan comments? Sadly, this crap (pardon the pun) goes on in the west as well.

5 ( +9 / -4 )

This is very sick and I had a friend who worked here in Japan as a prostitute and she told me she would get paid 5 man en for taking craps on crazy Japanese old perverts, I did not believe her then, but after this news, hmm 50,000 for just letting nature take its course??

-4 ( +4 / -8 )

I guess these women should have checked the toilet bowls and surroundings for any atypical equipment around the toilets. Well, nothing new.....yawn.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

One of the reasons the voyeurism is so exiting to certain type of people (men or women) , especially when the victims of voyeurism are in vulnerable and/or shameful positions/situations is that it gives the voyeur sence of superiority and control over the victim. Voyeurism is attractive to usually weak people who don't perform well when directly opposed to the opposite sex , or in the society in general, and they do have pretty big ego which desperately needs to be satisfied.

I think there are many Japanese men who match the criteria.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

I agree with a comment upthread. I wonder how the cleaning staff didn't find the camera. I wonder if they weren't bribed to leave the cameras there. Either that, or the cleaning staff did a really poor job. Eww.

Taka

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Another news article about perversion in Japan??? Shocking!

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

This is disgusting! But then again, there are those crazy individuals that actually enjoy this stuff. But that's an invasion of privacy. He should be pushed off a cliff. Lol

0 ( +0 / -0 )

I feel sorry for the cops who had to watch this sh**.

They are the one who buy this sh**!

0 ( +3 / -3 )

doing the maths, the guy made 4.5m, burnt 450 disks, at 10000yen a throw. Or 4 disks a week for 2 years. wow, what a lifestyle choice!

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Or 4 disks a week for 2 years.

Thing is, even if you put the DVD at 1 hour recording, and 5 minutes per peep session, that's a whopping 48 females a disk, or almost 200 a week!

In most small businesses, the store staff are also the cleaning staff, and they sometimes just do a quick scrub-a-dub around the toilet and change the rolls. Almost no time to do a scan for suspicious devices.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

EDIT on the above: that's supposed to be 12 a disk, almost 200 a month.

*need more caffeine.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

If he recorded this many hours, for sure, he recorded many innocent children and obachan in a indecent positions and getting his sexual gradifications. The children are real victims of this preditor and the investigators should hang him and send him to many years of jail.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Luckily for Japan, news about perverts and baby killers is never picked up by the western media, preserving the noble and pristine perception of the Japanese.

I would tend to agree with that statement.

I think some one should release some useful facts about this type of crime, i.e. what type of cameras these people use, how they get them into the target area (men gets into women's toilets - do they use fake uniforms etc?), and then make it available to the public so they can the necessary precautions. Probably seems a bit condescending to say that, but these crimes just don't never seem to be on the decrease.

For the victim of mental disorder, hope lies in being properly diagnosed and treated, the sooner the better. And for family and friends of the mentally ill, help comes best from those who understand the mental disorder. It isn't a sign of weakness to get the help you need. It is a sign of strength to say I have a problem and I need help. Hope and help is available. Humans are amazing creatures yet human weakness is a fact of life. We should know it's there. Thank God you don't have any mental disorder. We should all be grateful and appreciate our blessings because people are suffering with mental illnesses elsewhere in the world. Blame the disorder, not the person, Furthermore blame the problem, not the person.

I think rickyvee said everything I wanted to.

disgusting

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Shocking? In the West we are shockier. Search the web for "coprophilia" and "urolagnia".

0 ( +2 / -2 )

So what do we have to feel proud about living in Japan? I mean seriously, what is there? Yes there are many nice things, but I feel that there are far more sick, cruel, crazy and disgusting things about life and living in Japan.... Which is very sad.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

Shocking? In the West we are shockier. Search the web for "coprophilia" and "urolagnia".

Why do people think these things are only confined to the, "West" (whatever that term might really mean). If have some Japanese ability, you can find these things here too.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Weird. But is it that easy to plant a camera and keep checking on it for two years? Wonder how he got caught.

If I were a woman, I'd be checking for cameras from now on.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I think I just lost my dinner!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Hahahahaha.... that just shows how Japanese are too extremes.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

@Tamesu San It would have to be pretty big news for it to reach the states. We don't really get news even from other states unless they are really important, so I doubt something like this would reach the west. Although it shows us the reality of how things really are, which is disturbing.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Oh, yeah! Watching women take a dump really gives me my jollies, NOT!

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

i think all that money should be taken from him and donated to a women's charity like the fight for breast cancer.

at least then that disgusting display would actually not be for nothing but a sick man's fetishes

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I don' think it's just a Japanese thing, there are freaks getting caught doing this in every country.

As tmarie said Why the anti-Japan comments? Sadly, this crap (pardon the pun) goes on in the west as well.

Seems so many of you hate Japan, makes me wonder why you read the news or choose to live here?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Arthur Dumbolov - "won't stand even a SECOND of watching such crap".

Unlike the people who bought the DVD, I'm guessing!

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Note to self: check the toilets and walls for odd objects before using a public toilet! (Hidden cameras are hard to find tho, hence its name). Solution: don't use a public toilet if you can help it.

Why the anti-Japan comments? Sadly, this crap (pardon the pun) goes on in the west as well.

My thoughts exactly. I remember recently reading about a hidden camera in a Starbucks in Washington.... sick people are everywhere!

1 ( +3 / -2 )

supply and demand. sadly plenty of pervos out there. Just like plenty of drug addicts wanting drugs. There is demand and the unscrupulous supply it.

Get out of Tokyo much?

NovenachamaNov. 17, 2011 - 09:13AM JST For the victim of mental disorder, ...

Well, gross over-use of the word "sick" can sometimes be explained by a personal opinion. This sort of thing disgusts me as well, but its because I am older. I would be surprised if the average desperate horny male teen would pass up a chance to see women pulling their pants down even if it was in the restroom. Trying to deny it is just sad.

But here, clearly, we have a person trying to make a case for a mental sickness. Just outrageous. Its just a crime, like theft, and while some thefts are caused by kleptomania, trying to make the case that all or most are would be ludicrious. As is this attempt to call a voyeurism for profit enterprise a mental disease.

Most of the customers were probably not even true fetishists, but rather, just curious. I could even imagine most getting off on the invasion of privacy aspect more than anything else. And truly, the only thing that is dead wrong about this is the invasion of privacy, but that is not a product of sickness either, not unless you think rudeness and selfishness are mental illnesses.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

sick Japanese

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Liberals believe their rights never interfer with anyone else protection, safty or well-being. When one goes to a public facility one still expect a degree of privacy. To actually make a profit of violating someone else right to privacy is sick, lewd and criminal beyond comprehension.
