Man stabs ex-girlfriend, her parents in their home in Aichi

Police in Fuso, Aichi Prefecture, said Sunday they have arrested an unemployed 38-year-old man for attempted murder after he broke into the home of his ex-girlfriend and stabbed her and her parents.

According to police, the suspect, identified as Shinichiro Nagano, entered the home of Nishi Ichinomiya, 60, at around 2 p.m. Saturday and stabbed him, his 57-year-old wife and their 31-year-old daughter with whom he had been in a relationship until last year. NTV reported that the Ichinomiyas all sustained serious injuries in the stomach and back, but their condition is stable, police said.

Police, who were called to the scene by one of the family just after Nagano entered the house, said they found the knife used in the attack inside Nagano's car parked outside the house.

NTV reported that the daughter had consulted with police on March 28 about Nagano who had refused to break up with her. On April 3, Nagano forced his way into their home, saying he wanted to talk to her. After that incident, the woman had moved into a hotel for a few days.

Police said Nagano had been given verbal warnings on several occasions to stay away from the woman, and not to call or email her. His last attempt to contact the woman was April 5, police said.

Unemployed... seems he could afford a knife. I hope the woman will choose more wisely when picking her next mate. I know that an unemployed man has a lot of free time to spend with his girlfriend, but she should aim just a little bit higher!

Fortunately the parents are not mortally wounded. Hope the perp gets put away for a long time.

Hardly proper to criticize the victim here. There was little way she could have known he was a crazy psycho and the Police will i am sure and hope, arrest teh creep and throw him in prison for a long long long time. What a tragedy. I am only glad there were no deaths but what a horror. It is no laughing matter.

Japan, apparently, has a labour shortage but on JapanToday at least, there seem to be lots of news about unemployed people having enough time on their hands to commit heinous crimes such as this.

If there are so many jobs, why does this guy not have one? Probably because he's a lazy scumbag who can't be bothered and would prefer to just off his parents, etc. While trying to kill his ex and her family for daring to say no to him. Scum he is.

Guess she's a good judge of character. Hope they all recover completely, and this nutcase spends a very long time in jail.

Precisely why these stupid "verbal warnings" don't work. Serve him with a restraining order and arrest him if he breaks it...plain and simple.

Mirai, I am inclined to believe they do usually work or we would read about cases like this much more often. The police take these things in increments, starting soft and working up. They don't have the manpower to follow women around and wait for the next incident to confirm that the first incident did indeed happen. All they know is that one has an accusation and the other denies it.

I know some people out there want men locked up the instant they are accused, but I for one don't want that to happen. Lots of people get emotional and due stupid things after a break-up, but most cool out with time. Reacting to the few who don't cool out and eventually go all stabby would not be at all fair to the majority.

I have to wonder what kind of people thumbs-down a compliment to the victim, and a wish for complete recovery.

Unemployed often as not means yak member.

I agree with you it is not proper to criticize a victim, especially to say it was her "fault". It is 100% the perp's fault. However I cannot agree with;

There was little way she could have known he was a crazy psycho

"There was little way she could have known", there were probably a million signals as to what kind of guy he was, probably from the minute she met him. She may be naive and not have figured out the signals. Or the signals may have been what attracted her to him. Women (or men) who are attracted to abusive or violent (meaning violent to someone other than the woman dating him) for various psychological reasons. He may have been violent toward her from the start, or violent toward others, or expressed a desire to commit violence to show he wasn't a sissy or to get his way. This stabbing did not just suddenly happen.

"crazy psycho" is not what he was. these are words used by people turned off by the violent nature of a crime that they cannot personally imagine committing, generally to distance themselves from it and the person doing it. The fact is anyone could do this kind of thing if the circumstances were different. I don't mean if you got p'ed off enough, I mean if you had been brought up for a long enough time in an atmosphere of fear and/ or a place where violence was a reasonable medium of self-expression. I believe it is likely this guy knew exactly what he was doing and made a very conscious and rational decision to do what he did. He used a standard of reasoning I personally would never use to do something I would't do, you neither presumably. But he was not crazy.

What I want to say is, 1., he is rational and therefore fully responsible for his crime, and 2., if we keep our eyes open and see how people really are then we will be able to avoid or stop said people and their violence. Calling them crazy is dangerous imo, like sticking your head in the sand until the next violent criminal comes along.

@YaThink They don't have enough manpower but they use 16,000 police officers to protect 1 man but they can not use 1 police officer to protect the whole family from 1 crazy guy, I would say they have more than enough cops in Japan they just too busy by checking bicycles license plates

@ cracaphat (et al) - Allow me to interpret for you. I said she's "a good judge of character" because she had decided to leave him. It was not a sarcastic remark about her initial choice. Nobody could have known. I said "I hope they all recover completely" simply because I hope they do. What's wrong with that? And that part about "I hope this nutcase spends a very long time in jail" well, don't you think he is and he should? So what part of this message was despicable?

The good news here is now where the psycho has actually attacked almost murdered several people, he will go to jail. Lets hope it is a long sentence.

I would say they have more than enough cops in Japan they just too busy by checking bicycles license plates

I have to agree that priorities are seriously messed up. But there still are not enough cops to play bodyguard to all who would like one. If they knew who exactly was crazy and when and where exactly the crazy would strike, maybe. But that is impossible. Catching criminals in the act is not and never was a common thing anybody does, not even the cops. Anybody who thinks otherwise is welcome to grab a video camera and spend their free time trying to film criminals in the act. You will find out real soon the difficulties.

They don't have enough manpower but they use 16,000 police officers to protect 1 man

Didn't happen. Japanese authorities are prone to exaggerations and number fudging. If 16,000 cops got a memo that an "important guest" was in town complete with a reminder of how the police must do everything they can to protect him, it will be declared that all 16,000 were protecting, even the ones pushing pencils or off duty on the couch watching soccer.

Let me see in the US how many counts that would be:

Home invasion assault with a deadly weapon attempted murder Stalking

Lets see thats about 25 years to life in prison

Anyways there is two sides to a story and the reason why this guy went nutty we don't know but still for whatever reason it might be it doesnt justify the action.

Police said Nagano had been given verbal warnings on several occasions to stay away from the woman, and not to call or email her.

Yes, this will really deter a crazy stalker, he should at least have been given an restriction order so that he could not approach her, so she could call the cops immediately.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

so she could call the cops immediately.

You can always call the cops immediately! But remember, when seconds count, the police are just minutes away!

he should at least have been given an restriction order so that he could not approach her,

Oh, he could still approach her! He is not a kyonshi stopped dead by a piece of paper. Also, the police don't pass those out. And you can't buy them at the 100 yen shop. The alleged victim has to go to court to get one. So the question is, did she?

In all honesty, I am as sick of hearing about guys getting violent over getting rejected as I am of hearing of yet another woman who likely did very little to protect herself. I did not read anything in the article about alarms going off, a panic room, pepper spray in his eyes or her new dog Kujo tearing his arm off.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

@ cracaphat - How could that be misinterpreted? Do you even understand English?

two step plan to help with these situations.

1.Teach all women self-defence, pressure points are your friends. Always aim for groin.

Police should really start taking these things more seriously, to me it seems like people are escalating to violence and an alarming fast rate. This is not good and needs to be dealt with before it become an even worse problem.
