Man stabs girlfriend over break-up; survives jump off hotel roof

OSAKA —

A 17-year-old girl was stabbed more than 10 times with an awl on Sunday after her boyfriend got angry over their impending break-up. The man then jumped off the roof of the hotel they were staying in, but survived the fall, police said Monday.

Rina Matsubara, a third year high school student, was stabbed in the stomach and head, but her injuries are not life-threatening, police said.

Kenta Ueda, a 22-year-old company employee, is recovering in hospital after he jumped from the seven-floor business hotel they were staying in. An eye-witness told police he saw Ueda come out of the hotel room covered in blood and head for the roof. Ueda fractured his left elbow when he landed on top of a covered bicycle area on the first floor, and is in a stable condition. Police said they will arrest him on suspicion of attempted homicide when he is discharged from hospital.

Police quoted Ueda as saying: “We started talking about breaking up, and I lost it and stabbed her.”

the man certainly has a mental problem and the girl is smart enough to try and break up with him....why should she date a man who's not to her merits?...that's typical of a J woman...

Accused require shrink, before he find another girlfriend. If he does the thing again, perhaps he wouldn't be lucky again. He stabbed girl ten times, he should get for each stab ten years behind the bars. And please give him job as a 'butcher' when he starts to serve his sentence. ‘Shrink will have another job to sort it out.'

Osaka yep. This is the loss of communications (keitei culture) they are going through. Expect more of this over the next few years.

I know she was just 17 but surely she should have been smart enough not to go to a hotel, obviously surrender sexually to the guy and then start to break up with him. Of course she could never have anticipated his response, and why should she even have to consider such a response, but the sad truth is that she should have anticipated his vile action, even if it was a long shot. If you want to break up with someone, use email because you will get the same crazed response from a nutter but just in words. This gives you plenty of time to organize your defenses.

Young Japanese men have been so spoiled by their mothers that they remain immature and can not take rejection. Many men feel like they "own" their girlfriends or wives. (Anata wa watashi no mono.) I would say the guy's response is fairly common here in Japan. In the West this sort of rejection is part and parcel of the dating scene. Here, it often results in extreme behavior. Rather sick, really.

...well, he tried to kill his ex-kid girlfrined, (3rd year high school student), then tried to jump off a building! He is a complete failure! And now he has an angry Japanese girl after him for stabbing her... I almost pitty the fool!

Maybe Bubba-san can straighten him out!

I doubt its all as simple as it is in the article. I doubt she had a clear cut plan to break up with him at the hotel. It may have been as a reaction to something he did or said, spur of the moment. Or, it may have just been a plan to discuss the possibility of breaking up and she had not made up her mind either way upon entering the hotel. Then he went and blew that discussion and then she decided to call it quits.

Trust me, females do think ahead, and think a lot. It just isn't along the lines most males do. A guy would have decided sans discussion and proceeded in that direction either to its finish or until talked out of it. Anyhow, I would not take this article as the final statement on her thought process. His though... nutter.

What’s a 22 year old man doing with a 17 year old girl? Why does the article have to mention that he is a company worker, is this supposed to give him some level of credibility?

why should he be arrested for rape? Japanese law is varied on sexual consent and it's not illegal at 16 years old if the girl has permission from her parents

You should wait until they are 18 to protect yourself. The law varies from ku to ku. You wana take that one on?

    Moderator: Stay on topic please.

Unfortunately this has to be labeled "typical." Yet another stabbing crime by one Japan's child-men. I am waiting for for about foreign crime in Japan from the Japanese police in the wake of this.

Idiot. Next time just jump off the roof first.

  • nimbus at 05:06 AM JST - 9th December

The guy should be given a second chance....to jump off a much higher building.

Such a tragic story. At least they both survived, albeit her with some mental scars. Seriously though, I think that she must have had an inkling that he would react violently to a break up. Although again, at age 17... hard to judge.
