CHIBA —
Prosecutors on Thursday indicted a man, arrested last month for allegedly killing a woman and abducting her daughter in Chiba Prefecture, for murder and violating the gun and sword control law.
Hiroyuki Nakada, 28, allegedly bludgeoned to death Aiko Toyoda, the 61-year-old mother of his former girlfriend Tomomi, 22, with a sledge hammer in an apartment building in Chiba on July 18, according to the indictment by the Chiba District Public Prosecutors Office.
The prosecutors did not reveal whether or not Nakada has admitted to the allegations.
A police investigation has found that Nakada later took Tomomi in his car to Tochigi Prefecture on the day of the murder. They flew from Tokyo’s Haneda airport to Naha, Okinawa, on the following day and visited an aquarium and a beach on the southern island.
Nakada was arrested in Naha on July 23. The prosecutors did not indict him for abducting Tomomi and will continue to investigate a possible charge of abduction.
Chiba police say Nakada and Tomomi began to go out after meeting through an online dating service around January. They broke up around June, but Nakada took Tomomi to Aichi Prefecture against her will in July and she consulted the police twice afterward claiming she was being stalked, according to the police.
