Yep, rule number one in a hold up situation, give them the money and don't antagonize the perp. Your life is not worth your bosses money.

timeon, "how about this scenario: "hand me the money/tie yourself up otherwise I'll cut open your manager". Happy employees: "go ahead dude, we'll owe you some beers"
No telling what you'd do until you're there and it happens to you, but letting yourself be tied up by someone with a knife in his hand sounds like a bad idea to me. I think I would be, "Hmmm.... 1 of him, 11 of us, I think I'll just take the exit furthest from the knifeman and alert the police."

Is he related to 'FIDDLER ON THE ROOF?' Why only 11 of them, because it wasn't even number he got nabbed. Don't argue with robbers; give them what they want insurance will cover the whole lot. This crime is very strange. Was the robber friend of Manager? Hope not because they will both go behind the bars and 11 people out of job. 'PREMEDITATED FOR SURE' This offender is crass like all animals in jungle. Take him to shrink.

why would you run to the roof to make your get away? maybe he thought the cops would not check it and he could sneak away after the commotion ended or the cops may have been right on top of him. Still he could have gotten away riding naked on a toddlers tricycle with the inept Japanese police on his tail.

Did he say "This is a stick-up?"

Sticky Tape? I guess that's the best kind. Much better than non-sticky tape. Glad no one was injured.

obviously, he was yakuza. managers were afraid not just him alone.

I'm surprised Uniqlo had ¥2.5M to take.

So say he holds a knife to the throat of one of the employees - what would YOU do? It's a relief noone was hurt trying to be a hero.
depasio at 10:20 AM JST - 18th February
If this was in the west the guy could never rob a store with 11 employees with a knife 1. he would be beaten to death or 2 he would be beaten to a pulp. And if this was the west he wouldnt be brandishing a knife, it would be an automatic hand gun.

"... rule number one in a hold up situation, give them the money and don't antagonize the perp ..."
Interesting rule. Most people with a knife have no intention of using it on somebody. It would be much more interesting to use those hard-earned SK or Aikido techniques ... if you know how, of course. :-)
Gassho.
