Man turns himself in at Naha police station after stabbing incident

NAHA —

A man was stabbed while waiting on a sidewalk for a traffic light in Naha on Tuesday night, police said, adding that the suspect—a 25-year-old man—turned himself in at a nearby police station immediately after the incident.

According to police, the 23-year-old victim, who has not yet been named, was allegedly approached from behind and stabbed with a kitchen knife in his left side by the suspect, identified as Michimaru Nakamura. The men did not know each other, police said.

Police said the blade of the knife was 17 cm long and penetrated as far as the victim’s lung. The victim remained in a serious condition in hospital on Wednesday.

Nakamura has so far not revealed a motive for the attack, and was quoted by police as saying, “There’s nothing I can say. I don’t know why I did it.”

Another great bit of police work. Is this why the conviction rate is so high, because everyone just walks into the cop shop and confess?

Ivan: I'm not sure why you're mocking the police on this one. I would say "another high-strung moron snaps" is more apt. And as usual, there's no excuse at all. I really don't know what these people are thinking -- they snap over the stupidest things, if any reason at all, but don't think about the consequences whatsoever. Is life going to be better for this person in prison?

That's so mental. Then again, he did the wrong thing and immediately did the right thing. He'll do a little time and soon be back on the streets.

The summer stabbing spree has started. It happens every year around this time. I dunno why, but it does.

Some countries get riots for relief; Japan gets random stabbings.

They usually like to stab people in the neck here, so this guy did not study up on it before doing it.
