Man who fought with Asashoryu involved in another Roppongi punch-up

Tsuyoshi Kawana, 40, the former bike gang leader who hit the headlines when he was involved in a fight with Mongolian sumo grand champion Asashoryu, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a man in a Roppongi drinking establishment, police said Tuesday. According to police, the attack took place in the same establishment in which Kawana and Asashoryu had been drinking before the assault that would later end Asashoryu's career.

According to a report by Sankei Shimbun, eyewitnesses claim a 40-year-old man, who was known to Kawana, entered the establishment on May 8. Kawana, the former leader of the Kanto Rengo biker gang, is said to have become enraged and shouted at the man, threatening to kill him. It is alleged that Kawana then punched the man in the face and body, causing minor injuries.

May 8th? Do the wheels of justice go so slow or is the news just now being released?

Gosh, this Kawana sounds really really scary! Should I run for my life say...back to my native Mexico where the mafia comes to places like Roppongi in Mexico and lob hand grenades then finish us off with a nice dose of spray from a couple of hundred rounds from a few good old AK 47s?? Nihon ga kowai ne! lol!

Ebudo: Just make for the exit if he enters the bar you're in. Sounds like he gets hostile when he drinks.

so now let Asashoryu resume Sumo? No way, Good Bye Sumo !

He deserves an Apology, but he won't be back as he has plenty of other income sources sans the JSA pickerings.

I thought it was a Chinese guy who said something not very nice about Mongolia, probably I'm mixing the stories

I wanna see the videos. He must be a pretty good fighter. Put him in the Octogon!

The JSA will be mum on this one for sure.

This is the first we've heard about Asashoryu's alleged "victim." I think they should have given Asashoryu a medal. Bring him back, set him to work prowling Roppongi. Get rid of all the worthless punks the police are too timid to touch.

Fighting and anti-social activities often draws a negative response from the community and from law enforcement officials. It's sad but violence must be a part of nature and maybe it just feels good for some uncivilized men to fight or is it part of culture. In this case alcohol and perhaps his big ego seems to have influenced him. However there must be a biological and evolutionary reason why men fight. I've always found Darwinian's explanation and excuses for human behavior to be good reasons but not the real reasons.

Set asashoryu loose on the touts hassling everyone up and down the roppongi strip, some of them are just too pushy and sometimes become aggressive.

I thought touting was illegal !

Anyway back on topic get this ex bikie gang leader locked up and some counselling for his anger and self control issues.

Your problem here is that Asa is not Japanese and the victim was in the initial case. Asa made an excellent scapegoat and was just the incident needed for him to get kicked out for good by the JSA.

True. However, there is a difference from fighting and protecting one's self. Depending on the instigator of the situation, sometimes just walking away is not an option. Sounds like this guy didn't give Asa the option of just walking away. If Asa was made a scapegoat out of this, I don't think he should have been 'booted' from Sumo due to this incident.

Who seriously cares?

As said above, the facts of this bozo's background were conveniently left out in the Asashoryu case. Let's just cancel sumo altogether. The old gits who run it aren't worth their weight in salt.

Kawana may have started this fight, but sumo bad boy Asashoryu definitely started that fight! Right?

I seen this coming. J.S.A are a buncha morons...killin the sport one embarrassment at a time.

It costed Asashoryu his career and more, his reputation that makes him more difficult to find something really cool living and occupation.

It would be fair do from the sumo association to fix the situation by publicly apologizing the same humble way they request it from their wrestlers. I think of the big face old boys.

You people can give me "100 bads/thumbs down", but you obviously do not understand sumo. The yokozuna is the "face of sumo", and as such is not just expected, but required to act at a much higher level both inside and outside the dohyo. Asashoryu had already embarrassed his position before the incident with Kawana, so that was just the "final straw" as far as his chance of remaining yokozuna was concerned. Being the yokozuna is not just about having the best record and fighting spirit, it is also about having very good manners and the "proper form", no matter where they may happen to be. If you do not understand this or like this, than sumo is not the proper sport for you, and standard wrestling or boxing will probably make you happier.

A 40 year old ドキュン (DQN) . Oh My God!

Perhaps an enforced regimen of chemical castration, to lower his testosterone, would turn him into a kinder and gentler person. Then junior high school students would probably catch him in a dark alley and give him a proper thumping.

Yogizuna - is thinking that beating people (almost to death, or was it actual death, in some cases) in training camps, and illegal betting is wrong just a case of people not understanding sumo, too?

Asashoryu got very bad compliments from the japanese mass bcoz of this guy. Now everyone look mum. This guy is such a bad ass.
