    News like this isn't exactly new. A similar situation was reported, last year I think, with kaiten sushi joints doing the same thing with fish.

    You're kidding, right? Didn't you hear about the deliberate mislabelling of eel in Osaka? How about the mislabelling of 'tarako', among a mere few that have already happened up to now this year. People should be more afraid of what they're eating in Japan than imports from China, because they could well be worse than tainted Chinese gyoza, but have been relabelled as domestic (thus making the people think they are safe). Essentially, you can't trust anyone.

    Yeah, so true. This has been happening more regularly in Japan over recent years. I guess it stems from the so-called 'Japanese food culture' where Japanese is best. The motivation for this has to be profit and not supply. Brazilian chicken is dirt cheap compared to the local stuff. On the bright side, at least he wasn't changing the use by dates too (possibly).

    Didn't you read my post? I'm saying the exact same thing as you. All I said was that this kind of news is not new at all, it's been going on in Japan for years but the public here just look and ignore it unless the food was made in China.

    recently i have started to choose food on its colour/smell/touch etc. I try not to take much notice on where it was made because we cant believe everything we read anymore... sad really ;(

    As far as I'm aware the chicken has been domesticated for a few thousands years, so unless there's a wild Brazilian variety I'm unaware of it would be correct to label it as domestic, though domesticated would be better. I bought a jacket on the Portobello Road when I was on mushrooms. I wouldn't describe it as a meat-like experience, though.

    as I read on one of website. "Made in Japan" doesnt mean its good anymore.

    Everytime I read something like this story it makes me laugh thinking of all the times I've heard or read what "delicate" tastebuds the Japanese have and how discerning Japanese consumers are.
