Actually, from the description in the article, they were cartridges. A bullet is the part of the cartridge that leaves the rifle once it has been fired.
NHK have to go back and see how many people had they sacked, perhaps one of them is unemployed from NHK. What will be the next? Perhaps a parcel with ‘royal sword’ or poisoned McDonalds.
I wonder how much police work went into this? Any child can look at a bullet and figure out it's a friggin bullet! What is with this "metallic object" stuff? Are the police really that daft that they can't identify a bullet and say what it is from the start?
Yeah, does sound strange that somebody couldn't have just said "look, a rifle cartridge!" Then again, in Japan, I wonder how many people have ever seen a cartridge? The only place might have been the Yasukuni museum.
Still, this group Sekihotai seems to be pretty nasty. I wonder what NHK did to piss them off?

6.5mm arisaka round. I used to have one years ago, It was a very durable, well built rifle, and fun to shoot, too.

I didn't think the Imperial army had that much ammo left at the end of the war.
