Police on Tuesday arrested a woman for strangling her 9-year-old son at their house in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture. Miki Nishiyama, 30, was arrested for allegedly strangling her son Takumi, 9, with an electric cord in his room on the second floor of their house around 9 a.m. Her mother found Takumi dead and called police.

According to police investigations, Nishiyama strangled Takumi while he was sleeping. She has admitted to the charge, police said.

The head of a local school said Takumi was about to start school on April 7. He was awarded a prize for his poem titled “Mother” in 2007, a neighbor said. Nishiyama has so far given no motive, police said.

  may be she had financial problems, or felt that she can't take care of him any more, you never know what's inside these people's heads, but whatever it is, it's irrational. Poor boy

  Apparently another mother has just been arrested for strangling her four-year-old daughter.

  Is "killings by mothers" going to become a media fixation like "violent crimes by junior high students" was a few years ago, I wonder?

  hachinohe has had in 18 months a father strangling his wife and three kids then knifing himself. a boy 18yrs old killing his motherand two siblings with a knife, a son strangling his father, and now a mother strangling her son. all from a town of less than 250,000 people. Something in the water?
