Sumo then MSDF seamam next it will be a cop because their job's are so demanding I ask myself how can you ban something that has not been adequately researched????? The question that should be asked is why marijuana was banned in Japan in the first place, there was no research done it was American here say, substance are usually banned because the are harmful and a danger to your health is the any hard proof like the is with alcohol and hard drugs when it come to health, marijuana is very high on the safe list safer than skydiving!!!

Yo linro are you stoned? On one hand you say that dope hasn't been adequately researched then you claim that, "There has never been a single death directly attributed to cannabis use" . Well, prove it.

Also, not adequately studied - but there is anecdotal evidence - are the jobs lost, promotions missed, relationship ruined, physical and mental health issues ... I mean, shouldn't quality of life be factored it?

Finally, the skydiving comparison is completely bogus. Accidents tend to result is certain death, but millions of jumps are made every year without any accumulative effects from previous jumps. As you claim, dope does cause death, but there are accumulative effects of long term usage. A better comparison is with cigarettes, but since there is a drive to ban them I can understand why the pro-pot people avoid such comparisons.

The US Military random drugs tests too. Not just enlisted, officers as well. If you were on base the MPs would search your quarters.

buddha4brains have you ever done any research?? on this topic here are but a few. COMPARISON OF CANNABIS TO OTHER SUBSTANCES BY OFFICIAL MORTALITY STATISTICS

Sample year 1988. U.S. federal government Bureau of Mortality Statistics.

SUBSTANCE............................................NUMBER OF DEATHS PER ANNUM. TOBACCO.......................................... 340,000 to 425,000 ALCOHOL (not including 50% of all highway deaths And 65% of all murders)............................................150,000 + ASPIRIN (Including deliberate overdose...........180 to 1,000 + CAFFEINE (From stress, ulcers, triggering irregular heartbeats etc) ..................1,000 to 10,000 LEGAL DRUG OVERDOSE (Deliberate or accidental from legal, prescribed Patent medicines and / or mixing with alcohol) ......14,000 to 27,000 ILLICIT DRUG OVERDOSE (Deliberate or accidental from all illegal drugs).........3,8000 to 5,200 THEOPHYLLINE (Prescribed asthma drug) ...................50

    CANNABIS..................................................0

people are being criminalised on disinformation and someone is now going to jail for somthing he should not be. pure water is poisonous, pure alcohol is poisonous but if the % is low its safe Daaaaa! look at the amout of people now be arrested in Japan for weed the reson it is banned is becuase they probably don't know how to tax it Daaaaaaa! so Buddha4no brains do some research and you prove it is not safe, where are your figures that can help this person that this topic is about to stay out of Jail as I did say and got edited by this paper!! alcohol and cigarettes are far more dangerous to you health and KILL. No matter how hard it has been tried they can not say the same for Cannabis.

It's time for Japan to make a choice: admit that pot is not as bad as cocaine and other 'hard drugs' and reduce punishment, or else continue to pretend to be amazed as the people find case after case, day after day.

Give it a break -- Marijuana is not nearly as bad as other things, and until they realize that the people of this country will recoil in horror at what Japan has 'become'.

Anybody here want a Sailor that has access to multi-million dollar missle systems and all the other systems on board a Warship stoned?

Think I'd take a pass on that one, and give some thought to the folks using the "it's only a little pot angle here."

  • McC72 at 04:57 PM JST - 8th February

LEGALIZE IT. Peter Tosh was right.

After all, its not as dangerous as they make people to believe.

    Its about we become real

  • pointofview at 09:05 PM JST - 8th February

All these lawmakers make pot seem like its a demonlike substance. Ill admit, it`s not as healthy as brocolli but I think they are stoned themselves because they seem incredibly PARANOID!

  • MeanRingo at 09:39 PM JST - 8th February

Sailwind... do you want a drunk with access to all that equipment? Hmmmm, better make it illegal then. Right?

  • japanidol at 05:19 AM JST - 9th February

someone is now going to jail for somthing he should not be

that's a matter of opinion. weed is still illegal in Japan and is it really worth the risk? off to the pokey!

  • soldave at 09:08 AM JST - 9th February

Are we guessing he got it from a gaijin in Roppongi, as per usual?

  • dennis0bauer at 03:20 PM JST - 9th February

I Think The Japanese should stop visiting the Capital of my country, now i know why they like Van Gogh so much there are Coffee shops nearby! (For those who do not know, pot is sold at coffee shops in Holland)

  • buddha4brains at 01:45 AM JST - 10th February

Linro you are citing stats that are 20 yrs old! Sorry, give me something in this century.

Anyway, my main point is that death is perhaps not the only criteria to judge a substance such as cannabis. I know you want to smoke it without worrying about the law ... I get it, but to argue that there are no risks to cannabis - especially today's dope - is a bit self-deluding.

hey budd!! I hope someone will take this to court for any one in Japan busted for a herb or weed that was legal in Japan before the end of WWII and banned by a foreign country because they didn't trust their own men in a foreign country with the stuff Vietnam one good example that is why a "dry navy" is what most navies go by. Yes the MSDF man was arrested with pot but it still does not mean he was smoking on the Job. now for your numbers budd!!and what would you know about today's dope?? Hmmmm!I am up for a dibate if this paper will allow it. http://www.beckleyfoundation.org/policy/cannabis_commission.html
