A needle was found in sandfish at a Daiei supermarket in Sapporo, the 13th such case in the same store since August, police said Tuesday.
According to police, a customer spotted the needle in the fish on Monday afternoon, TV Asahi reported. The needle was 3.5 cm long.
Police suspect that someone put the needle in the displayed package sometime between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. and are analyzing security camera footage to try and identify the culprit.
Police said there have been 13 similar cases since August at the same store, involving a total of 16 needles in pastries and everyday dishes.

Hundreds of similar cases occur every year in Japan.

Which is interesting as it implies sabotage.
Raising the questions:
Would this be sabotage by competitors?
Is it sabotage as part of standover tactics by criminals?
Could this be sabotage by both competitors and criminals contracted to sabotage?
Could this just be from disgruntled employees sabotaging over grievances?
One thing is certain, this is taking an unnecessarily long time to solve if video evidence is available.

It could be clever being careful cooking anything from the Daiei supermarket in Sapporo

Pardon the pun, but finding the culprit will be like finding a "needle in a hay stack".
