Nepalese man held on suspicion of killing wife, tossing baby daughter's body in river

SAPPORO —

Police arrested a 26-year-old curry-and-rice restaurant operator in Kutchan, Hokkaido, on Tuesday on suspicion of killing his wife. The suspect, who is Nepalese, was quoted by police as saying that he had also dumped the body of their 6-month-old baby daughter in a river. The man, whose name hasn’t been released, admitted to the murder allegation, saying he beat his wife to death, and then throwing his daughter into a nearby river, according to investigators.

The man is suspected of fatally beating his 29-year-old wife, whose first name was Chie, at their home-restaurant building either late Monday night or early Tuesday morning. Her body was found in a bedroom on the second floor of the building with injuries to the head, they said. Police have searched the river where the man said he dumped his daughter’s body but have not found her yet.

How's the pro-immigration side of that debate going? This should put all such talk to rest once and for all.

rjdsr...You never cease to amaze me -- whether you are "sr" or "jr". How does one unfortunate incident that involves a Nepalese man put "to rest once and for all" the immigration debate? Is this worse than the J-guy who cut up a Filipina a couple of weeks ago -- the second time he committed such a horrendous act? No, of course it is not. But, following your twisted logic, those promoting an increase in the birth rate in Japan should shut up, because that will just bring more J-murderers into society as well. Right? The nationality of the accussed is a red-herring. My sympathies to the family of the wife and to the child.

rjd jr: Funnily enough there are a few people here who realise that horrible tragedies such as this do happen, and nationality has nothing to do with it. I have met a few Nepalese in Japan and without exception they have been charming, kind and friendly people.

    Well said.

Well said, jerseyboy. But will you yourself be able to avoid making similar generalizations about Japanese? I doubt it.

  • jerseyboy at 02:21 PM JST - 7th May

sarcasm...Thanks. I'll try to avoid the generalizations. But if I slip, I'm sure that you'll jump all over me.

What a horrible thing to happen...

The article here says: "The man, whose name hasn’t been released"

I would just like to point out that his name has been released in the Japanese language media...

What has immigration got to do with the circumstances of this crime? Nothing we know about. As you are probably aware, foreigners in Japan commit fewer crimes per capita than Japanese do.

I think it's a shame that anyone should try to exploit such a tragedy to make political points

Actually, you could call this a Japan-style crime -- with the person "snapping" (kireru) as has been in the media frequently in recent months.

  • thedeath at 08:03 PM JST - 7th May

"Actually, you could call this a Japan-style crime" i would call that if the guy also finish off him self too!

I do like the 'curry-and-rice restaurant operator' part. Why not 'restaurant operator'? 'Curry-and-rice' suggests the place was not really a 'restaurant', or at least one which is not to be taken seriously. Shall we call izakayas 'beer-and-snacks places'?

  • GG2141 at 12:05 AM JST - 8th May

'curry and rice" is just a point of reference. He may also have been referred to as a "convenience store operator" or a "fast food store manager" (as in the guy who was punched by the rampaging G-8 chef a few weeks ago.)

No racial overtones there to fuel your xenophobic fire I'm afraid.

6-month baby tossed into a river.....

how could someone do such a thing....

Compare this with the job descriptions on the Iranian drug bust thread, BLV.
