i think he did a good deed. that law is stupid and full of discrimination (although i believe it exists in all countries). sucks that it became evident though. they should kept it secret. anyway hope he go good mu-shu for that.
zaichik, you can work up to 20 hours a day with a student visa and a working permit, but entertainment jobs (fuzoku, soap, clubs, pachinko etc.) are specifically forbidden
but then again, there is the precedent of the prostitute from Kyushu university, where the judge decided "since her grades were good, it's ok to break the law"...
the link is not working anymore, it was on the "old site"
(and to be fair, she wasn't a prostitute they claim, but "hostess". the law is the same though)
The officer admitted to the allegation, saying he felt sympathy for her.
It is possible that he fell in love with her and tried to help her. If he was just using her for gratification, why would he care what happens? No, I think he fell for her. I believe him. They probably talked a lot when he visited her. It is possible for a Japanese man to have compassion people.
fatioser - Not sure, but I'm sure a member or 2 of SMAP will be in there somewhere. And I guarantee there will be one scene in a disturbingly clean hospital! I notice his name isn't mentioned, or whether or not he is married.
Bless this cop, helping an illegal foreigner, much to the discredit of those who portray this entire society as xenophobes and bigots!!!
this story helps portray the japanese police as not doing their job to enforce the law and the willingness to turn a blind eye to the exploitation of immigrants in the sex industry, but nice try
but entertainment jobs (fuzoku, soap, clubs, pachinko etc.) are specifically forbidden
Point taken, but the implication of the way this article is written is that all employment is forbidden unless a waiver is obtained from immigration. Another example of JT's rather relaxed approach to linguistic precision (c/f posts by Nessie highlighting other examples).

timeon - please tell me that story is true! I would love to see a source for that and read more into it as it sounds like a classic!

Hopefully they will marry and live happily. I sense the makings of a fantastic love-drama in this story. Who will play the lead roles??

This officer needs to be locked up.
But then again, this isn't of great moment and it's not my country.
Heck, lock him up anyway.
Reflection is good for the soul.
