"stashed away"...another in a long line of japanese euphemisms: its just THEFT, plain and simple

the reimbursement of around 300 million yen from the employees involved and those employees should be penalized

Umm.... shouldn't they be charged with fraud or misappropriation of funds and face a judge to be sentenced for their crime? These jokers embezzled and misused 7 million bucks, but nobody has been arrested. C'mon! What's that crap? No wonder Osaka prefecture is broke!

'stashed away' makes it sound like honest little worker bees saving their hard-earned cash for a rainy day

100% agree. Throw them all in jail no matter how remorseful they are. Make an example of them for the thousands of other bueaucrats who are also "stashing away" funds. Oops, sorry, lost my head for a moment. This is Japan. No one will likely even be fired, let alone prosecuted.

municipal employees stashed away around 700 million yen.....the city should seek the reimbursement of around 300 million yen from the employees involved

Those figures don't add up. If they stashed it away, doesn't that mean that it's still sitting there (somewhere)? What's wrong with getting them to pay back the full 700 million that they embezzled, plus interest, and then fine them?

Oh, and sack them, of course.

And this is just Osaka, just imagine how much is being "stashed" right now around the countryside & then think how much has been "stashed" & spend over the last few decades, it will have been wicked in the 80s!

And we can all guess how many were charged with theft & did/will do time, yep a whopping ZERO!

its not fair! hostess bars count as official duty. of course they were just talking to the girl to make sure that the place was not abusing her.

Yes, the J government is to blame.

But, the J public is also to blame for not demanding change.
