Osaka man saves wife after she tries to kill him in fire

Osaka prefectural police have arrested 48-year-old Masumi Nishino for the attempted murder of her husband and arson of their home and office. The arrest, on Sept 20, was made possible only after Nishino’s allegedly intended victim/husband saved her life by pulling her from the very same building she set on fire.

According to police, Nishino’s husband worked at home from a split-off “office” portion of the residence doing graphic design. On the night of Aug 31, the couple got into a heated altercation that went on until the next morning. Unable to reconcile, the husband went to sleep in the office side of the home.

However, Nishino who later said, “I wanted to smoke him out,” began using a lighter to set fire to pieces of paper and shoved them into the gaps between the wall to the office side. A few minutes later, she got tired and retired to the residential side of the complex to sleep. Not too long after that, her husband awoke from the heat of the flames engulfing his room. Quickly he escaped but realized his wife was still inside the house.

Already suffering from burns to his respiratory tract, the husband went back into the home and pulled Nishino from the building. Both were taken to the hospital where Nishino was released on Sept 3 following smoke inhalation treatment which her husband is still undergoing but is expected to pull through.

After questioning Nishino, police pressed charges for arson and attempted murder. Nishino made a statement saying, “I was just trying to annoy him. I had no intention of killing him or even burning down the house. I had no idea this would happen.”

Spouse: your best ally or your worst enemy, sometimes both!

He saved her life after she tried to kill him. That is the way I would have put the headline.

You have to admire the husband who risked his life and limb to save his stupid wife.

"Osaka woman arrested for attempting to kill husband after he saved her life"

She didn't try to kill him after he saved her life she attempted to kill him and then he saved her life.

The headline has been corrected.

Not sure about Japanese penal code but you have to intend to prove murder. She also said she wasn't trying to burn down the house. She just wanted to annoy him by putting lit paper between the wall to smoke him out. Embers do re-ignite Guess she wasn't a Girl Scout or have any common sense. She basically set the wall on fire and when she got tired from no results, she went to sleep. Not sure if there is a crime here.

Sadly idiocy isn't a crime... should be though. Punishable by being sent back to elementary school to learn the basics like, don't play with fire.

Moron woman, send her to jail.

The hubby didn't know that she was the one who set the fire until afterwards. I wonder how he feels about her now...

She didn't try to kill him. If she had, why would she have then gone off to bed and slept? She's certainly guilty of stupidity and dangerous behavior though.

Evil woman!

Awkward anniversary conversation.Hey remember when I tried to kill you then you saved me from the fire? Kawaii!

he shouldn't have gone to sleep. what is that the bible says? never let the sun go down on your anger. especially anger against a wife.

Double Darwin in my opinion.

I'm with the opinion, he only saved her, because he didn't know. Otherwise he probably would have tried to save his computer (and work) first.

Could have been over the street from my apartment last saturday. A couple was having a quarrel in their house for several hours and you could hear the wife hysterically shouting all the time. Terrible! Feeling sorry for the kid!

"I had no intention of killing him or even burning down the house".

Well, you can say that, but you almost killed the guy anyway and the house is reduced to embers. Now you're going to have the face the music. Let that be your lesson to -never- do it again.

Wow.... where was her brain?????

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Sorry but where does it ever say she tried to kill him? If she had honestly thought she had set the house on fire there's no way she would have gone to sleep/ needed saving.. Whoever wrote this needs to pay more attention to the details...

Anyone who thinks that she was trying to kill her husband has never been in a long term relationship with an attention seeking woman. I have had similar experiences, but fire was never used. But I would not have been surprised if it had. Sometimes people do stupid things when they are frustrated by their partner's indifference to their attention seeking behavior. The husband did the right thing by ignoring her. If it had been me I would have checked out the damage to the house after she went to sleep. Trying to smoke her husband is only about a 7 on the nutty girlfriend / wife scale. I have seen and experienced worse. She should not be charged with attempted murder or arson. But a lesser charge of endangering others, or whatever they call the charge would be understandable. It would be nice if the court would mandate counseling with no jail time. Good Luck to the husband.

She shouldn't be charged. She didn't try to kill anyone or burn down the house. She got emotional, did something stupid, went to bed, things got dangerous. Criminal charges will do nothing to solve her problems, nor protect society.

I think there would be far fewer 'nutty' girlfriends and wives if female-on-male violence was just as socially unacceptable as male-on-female violence.

The overwhelming majority of men (in civilised countries) have never inflicted any violence of any kind whatsoever on a woman (no slaps, thrown items etc.)

Sadly, many women are comfortable with inflicting a certain level of violence against men, so it's not surprising that when they really lose it, the level of violence gets worse.

Not even sure what to think, is this woman too stupid? Why is this man putting up with this kind of an idiot? Do they have kids and this is the only thing that keeps them together?? Does she have mental problems?? We need more information, but anyway, if I was this dude down in crazy Osaka, time to call it quits unless he wants to end up like a yaki niku danna (translation Korean BBQ burnt up husband) Maybe she is a nut case, maybe she was drunk, does anyone here really know??

My ex tried to hit me with a hammer and I saved both of us from her rage but she claimed DV against me. Apparently, this grudge issue is common in here and later they turn into liars ...

Having been on the receiving end of a complete psycho ex g/f, I agree 100%.

That woman needs to seriously take a look at herself, realise she has been acting like a spoiled brat and spend the rest of her life trying to make it up to the man that is obviously a lot kinder than she is. Some people can never admit they are in the wrong.

This is a wonderful love/hate story. I hope they'll get back together and rekindle whatever spark brought them together in the first place. Only not literally. ; )

lucabrasi ...

A reunion for this pair? He would be well advised to find someone else. I reckon reunions do more harm than good. 4billion other women out there .. surely he can find another less harmful!
