They get arrested for selling it but the real question is

Who was sleeping at the wheel when it came threw customs.

  • serindipity at 04:06 PM JST - 17th July

Ummm, on sale for three and a half years? I guess they missed their paper bag payment to the minister for science and technology, so he busted their donkeys!

Buying and selling radioactive material? This is big news, all you would have to do is get about 30 million of these straps and wrap them around a conventional explosive and you would have yourself a "dirty bomb." Then again, you could achieve the same effect with a couple of hundred litres of pig manure and some explosive. Just waiting for this post to be deleted.

yet we poison ourselves everyday with electro magnetic waves from these devices

1957 radiation sickness prevention law that regulates the use, sale, lease or disposal of radioactive isotopes, police said.

Law does not regulate imports of such material(s)? something is missing...may be yak related business.

Wow...better not sell any glow in the dark compasses or watches!

How did the innocent nihon got acess to Radio active material. what is guarantee that Bin laden will not have Radio active material aha!

  • littleboy at 11:21 PM JST - 17th July

It's Tritium. Just slightly radio active hydrogen. You can buy the stuff yourself in America. Bin Laden probably has radioactive material. Everyone has got radio active material. Get a Geiger counter and hold it up to your wall. Paint contains potassium which is radioactive. I have Uranium glass cups. Oh yeah, and be scared of all that electromagnetic radiation. A.k.a - light.

Timorborder... I hope you are joking... Between the overall ineficiency of a dirty bomb and the total impracticability of using such a lowly radioactive compound it's just... impossible... even Fox News would'nt be able to scare the public this kind of setup...

Meanwhile... with the price of tritium... using it for anything else than luxury watches is really a sad waste.

(BTW, you want dirty bomb... go pick some american depleted uranium ammo in Iraq... real nasty stuff, but not called dirty bombs... because you know... it's the good side who use them, so they can't be wrong...)

Doesn't matter where in the world it is, if it glows, it's radioactive!

  • ca1ic0cat at 12:10 AM JST - 18th July

the irony is that they are both from Hiroshima. But tritium has a short half life and isn't likely to cause any serious damage. But the government standards are there for a reason. I agree it's surprising that they were doing this for years and didn't know what the score was. Ignorance is bliss?

  • Armanian at 06:25 AM JST - 18th July

And a little bit more radiation to the amount we induce ourselves in during our daily lifes probably wont have much effect or it might =P

  • adaydream at 06:33 AM JST - 18th July

Imported from Britian, huh. < :-)

  • kokuryu at 06:47 AM JST - 18th July

Check out Ball Watches. They make a legitimate product that uses Tritium. You need a special nuclear materials handling license to be able to ship a Ball Watch. Pretty cool, eh? The Tritium in the watch lasts for 25 years... Neat watch!

  • dennis0bauer at 03:19 PM JST - 18th July

    Youdontknow So fireflies are radioactive?

from hiroshima? that is kind of ironic.
