Scary. I thought this was just a follow up to the story the other day but apparently it's just the season for finding decomposed human remains in water :

No, because every country only goes off reported crime rates. No one anywhere knows the real crime rates for any country, because not all crime is reported.

Therefore the only realistic point of comparison is reported crime rates, since those are the only numbers we can know anywhere.

Unless you think they are fabricating crime rates, in which case we need some sort of proof of that.

Pretty sure if you're seeing bone tthe decomposition process started a long time ago.

There is the possibility.... especially since the body is already partially skeletonized, that the body may have been moved there well after she died. About Japan's crime rate and unreported crimes. From 2008 to 2012 it was found that in Osaka 81,000 crimes went unreported by the police. They wanted to have Osaka crime statistics make the city look safer than it really is. Basically they did not report the crimes to the NPA, National Police Agency.

@keika1628... what is the opposite of bashing.... fabricating data to make things appear better than the truth. The Osaka Police Department admitted to with holding actual crime statistics.... they did not report 81,000 incidents over a 5 year period. If you think my bringing up the facts is bashing.... then you are the type that prefers lies over the ugly truth. Sweeping the dirt under the tatami does not make it go away.

....and its a country of 120 million people, and every single find of a body makes the news. Because it is news here. Can you say the same about whatever country you come from?

@willib..... its news in every state in the U.S., and I'd bet it would be news in every country in Europe. It would not make U.S. National News... its gotta be big to do that. Also... with commercials.... U.S. National News is only around 21 minutes a night.... would have to be a slow, slow news day to make it.

No, they do not. The SUICIDE RATE in Japan is TWENTY-FIVE times the MURDER RATE. Most bodies found are SUICIDES and there are just too many to make the national news.

The posters highlighting the chronic under-reporting situation in Osaka are telling the ugly truth about Japan. It is definitely not safe.

But it is a law-abiding country with a low crime-rate!!

Bottom line.... even with the "un-reported", crime, if you somehow figure what we don't know in, Japan, yes, is still a very safe place. Agree whole-heartedly, But that said.... why try to paint it as being super, super safe. Japan's propensity to constantly extol their virtues but hide their imperfections can be exasperating. I'm from the U.S., and as much as I think there is a lot of good things.... I'm very critical of all the bad.... and there is a lot. A true patriot admits the ills of his country and try to fix them.

I think the crime reports in Japan is fudged to make people think they have a low crime rate. Every day I read of at least three murders and they still have a low murder rate!! I DON"T THINK SO!!

I think Japan is safe, but I and my friends were victims of numerous petty crimes. Stolen bicycles, stolen underwear, groping, stalking,, burgulary of more knickers, trespass and a terrible assault on a female. Of course, when the assault was reported, the police blamed the victim. Never that many incidents happen in my home country.

How about the large number of missing people in Japan? That number is rather large, these unsolved crimes would suggest that Japan is less safe than official crime statistics suggest.....

It:s kind of scary seeing all these reports of human bodies being found recently. It seems that when one crime of sorts is found, so many more surfaces at around the same time.

Aside from Japan which has a population of over 120M people, all of the countries on that list have less than 10M people with Iceland under 1M.

Which gives an indication of just how fake the Japanese crime statistics must be.

If they were faked, you can be sure there would be much more evidence of crime and dysfunctional behavior but there isnt.
