Peeping Tom cop attempts suicide during questioning

A Yamanashi police officer who was being questioned on suspicion of being a peeping Tom stabbed himself in the throat with a knife, police said Saturday.

The man, who has been identified as 41-year-old Kengo Yamazaki, a police sergeant at Takatsu police station, is accused of spying on a woman in her 20s on Friday morning. According to TBS, Yamazaki allegedly looked over a campsite bathroom cubicle wall at the woman while she was using the toilet. The woman spotted him and called police.

Yamazaki was taken to Otsuki police station for questioning, at which point he reportedly stabbed himself in the neck using a knife he had been carrying.

Yamazaki reportedly sustained only minor injuries in the incident.

I learned something today. 'Peeping Tom' I had to check what that meant...

even if someone is taken in just for questioning, they should still be searched for weapons

The cop comes to the campsite with his family and he peeps?

Sounds like there is more to it than just a little peeping. He probably was worried he would have been busted for a more severe crime he committed but is yet to be busted for (or was busted for but the police aren't telling the public about).

Yet another pervert Japanese cop busted. No surprise for anyone, but really, this is getting out of hand...

Its a wonder how you can become a 'Sergeant' with an IQ like that! Oh I forgot, he probably scored well with TOEIC, so he passed.

A japanese peeping tom LOL The J-cops should have let him borrow one of their guns,or left it in the interrogation room so he could do us all a favor if he really wants to kill himself.

This Mr. 'Cop' is crazy!

This is getting ridiculous....the police force needs an enigma

I agree with Justin- more telling than a cop getting busted for peeping, is the part about being taken in and not checked for weapons.

"...stabbed himself in the throat with a knife..."

"Yamazaki reportedly sustained only minor injuries in the incident."

Not only failure at peeping but also ending his life in an honorable Japanese way.

Tumbledry:

I learned something today. 'Peeping Tom' I had to check what that meant...

...and here's something else you may not have known - when Lady Godiva made her famous near-naked horseback ride through the streets of Coventry in the 11th century she was protesting at the taxes her husband Leofric had imposed on the people (he had promised to revoke the taxes if she made the ride). Out of respect for her the town's folk turned their faces away; except for the tailor Tom - who was struck blind for his indescretion.

Pity the same fate did not befall our loser Police officer.

Even bringing someone in for questioning wouldn't you search them for weapons? I'm not sure if anyone is more familiar with standard procedure in Japan, if you are I'd like to know what goes on when you bring someone in for questioning. As an investigator for the military we take a lot of precautions to protect us and the people we deal with.

Yes, I see your logic, you're right, it wouldn't have been as bad if he did it with friends or by himself. . .

and he tried killing himself over it? Just peeping? It makes me wonder...okay he might lose the job and get in trouble with family, but..kind of very drastic!

Peeping Toms are creepy. Not all Peeping Toms become serial rapists or killers but an inordinately high number of serial rapists and sexual killers start out as Peeping Toms. And you may say "just peeping" but to the victim, it can be very traumatic and damaging, particularly because people tend to be so dismissive of it.
