Police arrest knife-wielding man after high-speed chase ends in crash

Police said Sunday they arrested a knife-wielding man on suspicion of violating the Sword and Firearms Control Law after his car crashed into a patrol car following a high-speed chase in Minami-aizu city, Fukushima Prefecture.

According to police, the driver of the car, 23-year-old Teppei Waritani, had allegedly used a knife to threaten the male employee of a sex shop in Utsunomiya. He also stole the employee's mobile phone. The employee alerted police and gave them a description of Waritani's car.

The high-speed chase ended when Waritani turned into a dead-end and then suddenly did a U-turn and rammed an oncoming police car.

The outcome would have been a lot different in other countries. He would have been shot in the states and tazered in Oz.

The Japanese police actually CHASED somebody in a car????? hard to believe, but good for them for catching this guy, and good thing no innocent bystanders were hurt.

What a freak. I'm almost morbidly interested in what the argument might have entailed. Glad no one was seriously injured!
