Police arrest man over attempted kidnapping of 14-year-old girl in Chiba

Police said Wednesday night that they have arrested a 53-year-old man over the attempted kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl on a lonely road in Ichihara, Chiba Prefecture, on Tuesday morning.

According to police, the girl was riding her bike to school at around 7:30 a.m. when a car pulled up beside her on the narrow road. The girl told police the driver asked her what grade she was in. Then he got out of his car, grabbed her and forced her into the back seat of his car where he proceeded to bind her hands and feet, TBS reported.

However, another car came from the opposite direction and its driver honked the horn to tell the suspect to move his car which was blocking the way. At that point, the girl freed herself and jumped out of the car, which took off.

Police said that fingerprints left on some of the girl's belongings led them to the suspect. They also confiscated the man's car, a silver minivan.

the man who was described as being in his 50s or 60s. Police said the suspect’s car was a silver wagon.

That should narrow the suspects down to a few thousand in southern Chiba. Glad the girl got away.

That should narrow the suspects down to a few thousand in southern Chiba.

But it should help them if they look at any video evidence in the general vicinity.

What an amazing, brave girl! She must have been scared to death. I'm so happy she escaped.

Thank you for the good news!

Interesting translation point. In Japan "wagon sha" refers to a van-type vehicle. What is known in English-speaking countries as a "station wagon" is known in Japan as "ban". So which type are we talking about here?

Good for the girl, and I hope they catch the perv.

Kidnap attempt? I consider this a kidnapping the moment she was forced into the car. Glad she's safe. Criminal acts of abduction and confinement should be punished severely.

THANK GOD! If not for that stroke of luck, she'd be dead now.

I have a daughter of similar age and I also feel relieved to see her home safe every evening. What a terrible world we live in.

OMG!! Glad she escaped. Hope they catch this deviant and question him to death on why he would do such a thing.

the driver that honked didn't see a girl jump out and take the license plate number?

@Debucho

the driver that honked didn't see a girl jump out and take the license plate number?

I was wondering the exact same thing but he may not have seen her... Also he'd have to be pretty quick to notice - and remember the number. So glad she's safe ! That was really plucky of her to manage to escape ! She may be afraid to ride her bike along that road again...

They already have the guy. They caught him via his fingerprints.

If she can, try to hold on to the bike and scream police. It's difficult to put a screaming person holding onto a bike into a car. Basically, make yourself "big" using anything.

Great escape for a young girl. I imagine these crimes happen in the evening but in the morning on the way to school. What a lucky girl!

Wonder what sort of comic books he has at home?

53yo. Great he will spend 20 years in jail.

The problem with conformity and blind obedience in Japan leads to children not using common sense.

Glad to hear she's safe and they got the guy. Good job also on the J-cops for following leads that led to the arrest. I just hope the girl recovers mentally from the ordeal.

It was another fortunate for the girl that the supect didn't have any weapons.

As a dad, happy that the police have the alleged kidnapper.

I'm very relieved the situation didn't end in violence or worse. Plucky kid.

If he is capable of this, he is capable of much much more. He deserves a long time in prison.

Glad she got away, glad they got the guy.

Please, have your children learn Self Defence. I despise the fact that socities have these sick people walking, driving around. They live free to take our loved ones, do eveything you can to lessen the chance of that happening. Educate. Equp. SO, SO good this girl escaped. Personally? I'd like to bundled this 'man' into a car, tie his feet and wrists, take a drive...

I gather this guy has been arrested before if they had his fingerprints on file. I wonder if he's also a fan of child pornography or anime.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

The fact that they were able to identify him by his fingerprints clearly means he is a recidivist. I wonder what he got arrested for the first time.

Glad they got the guy so quick, (willib, i agree, although the amount of news items from chiba and saitama seems to indicate that areas are less safe).

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow no mention of this guy nationality?

@King: Said on TBS News that he had a previous driving offence.
