Police capture fugitive on run since escape from Ibaraki police station

MITO —

A 24-year-old man who escaped from the Mito police station last Friday after the officer questioning him drank tea laced with sedatives and fell asleep, was captured at around 5 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Naoto Tsuge, an unemployed man and resident of Naka City, was arrested for attempted theft on April 16, accused of breaking into a car to steal the personal belongings inside. He was being questioned by a 30-year-old officer on the second floor of the Mito police station on April 24, when the officer fell asleep. Tsuge escaped from the room after applying force to the metal bars covering the window.

Two empty packets of sedatives were found in the room and traces of the sleep-inducing agent were found in the teapot the officer drank from.

Tsuge was placed on a nationwide wanted list and was arrested on Thursday after being found in the garage of a residence in Mito City at around 5 a.m, police said.

From some other sources, I understand he surrendered himself.

Question is still how did the sedative get into the teapot? Did the cop say you make the tea and I'll prepare for your interrogation?

Isn't this like the third version of this story...?

    (1) First the officer fell asleep, while the "Suspect" was tied with a rope... But later that day, or the next the guy turned himself in...

    (2) Ok, now the officer is drugged with a laced tea sedative cocktail, and this guy is on the run...? Not only that, but placed on a Nation-Wide most wanted list for... Suspected Theft...?

    What a country...

Moderator: You are referring to two separate incidents.

I like this story and it is very good. Just something is missing. It doesn't have any sensibila, who done what. Did cops conducted any strip search on suspect this time?

Tsuge escaped from the room after applying force to the metal bars covering the window.

So, to escape from a Japanese Police Station, you just need to push on a bar with your hand. After slipping a cop a roofie.

Congrats to the J Cops for catching this guy. Just goes to show that you don't want to get one of the J Cops "tea'd off" (LOL)

So many questions. How did he get the drugs in to the room? And into the tea? When was he roped? How did he get out of it? How on earth did he bend metal bars? With what? I am DYING for this guy to be on Larry King!

    Interrogation Room. (April 26th, Friday)

Cop: Explain in easy words why I should let you off? Tsuge: well, I have 1 mill in used notes stashed away. Cop: What's the plan? Tsuge: Well, let me drug you with this, and I will make my escape, leaving behind some empty packets like so...

Do Japanese journalists speculate which questions their audience might raise upon reading the news story? Presumably all readers will infer that the suspect was somehow responsible for administering the sedatives; the article however makes no definitive statement as to what's going on.

Do you even bother to check other sources? Oh. Don't bother answering.

Obviously the team tracking this guy was not the same one looking for Ms. Hawker's killer. He's still running around over one year later. Can they transfer some of these cops to her "taskforce"?

Of course this is speculation but maybe the cop put the sedative in the tea himself to cover up the fact that he had fallen asleep on his own.

Unfortunately the story doesn't add up very well so we're left to speculate.

I can only speculate where Hawker's murderer is too. I suspect that he is not going to be turning himself in though. It would be good if the cops caught that thug.

He was easy to find though. He was wearing blue jeans and a green tea shirt.
