Police in Tokyo are looking for a man wanted for the attempted kidnapping of a 12-year-old girl in Suginami Ward.

According to police, the girl was walking home at around 8:30 p.m. on May 8 when she heard a man call out to her asking for directions, Fuji TV reported. The girl told police the man, whom she did not know, approached her, suddenly grabbed her arm and tried to lift her up. The girl resisted and swung her bag at the man who quickly gave up and fled the scene in a black station wagon.

Police said the suspect is in his 30s, is approximately 175 to 180 cm tall, and was wearing a white and navy blue striped sweatsuit.

A black station wagon! There aren't many of them on the streets! This guy should be easy to find!

Technically trying to grab and lift someone up is not defined as a kidnap attempt. I'm not saying that he did not intend to do harm or other actions to this girl but that is not kidnapping. He obviously wanted to do something else but what, where and how because anyone who has lived in Japan knows all too well, you can never be or are completely alone.

Great that she managed to fight him off. Parents, it's really worth sending your kids to self defence (i.e. judo, karate) classes, or teaching them a bit yourself if you can and make them aware of the dangers, just in case of idiots like this.

I think having a car ready to go is what leads people to believe it is a kidnapping attempt.

Well why not Hawkeye? I usually agree with you toe to toe.

But, isn't kidnapping the moving a person from one place to another, against his/her will, using force (he grabbed her arm(s) tried to lift her) fear, duress etc? Plus his station wagon was near, showing intent to transport her elsewhere.

The suspect attempted to do that. Met all the elements necessary for the crime of attempted kidnapping. Kidnapping is obviously a crime in itself, but so are "attempts".

Sex crimes stats of young kidnapped gals show she was prob a victim of further foul play. Throw the book @him.

I want to give a high-five to the girl. Way to go! And for future events, keep a brick in your bag!
