What a disgrace, to kill wearing chinese-made shoes !
More seriously, since it is probable that those shoes have been distributed by tens of thousands, the subliminal message of J-police is "hey, you see, it's going to be awfully difficult, maybe we never find him".

Oh, they forgot to mention he has a Korean phone too. Maybe he's half Chinese and half Korean.
Stonefish at 11:09 PM JST - 21st November
So in other words the police have found nothing. "lace-up shoes" ??? and lets be clear in our terms - we only know that the soles were made in China. The uppers could have been made in....well, almost anywhere really! It's a tough case, but good to see they are (insert pun here)

Sarge, probably 99% of the shoes containing leather are not made in China, not even imported from anywhere. This has to do with the import tariff quota on leather shoes, that negates all efforts made by WTO solely for maintaining "social peace" in a fraction of the J-population that is largely "dowa" (or "burakumin") and could bring embarrassment to Japan if it was going to become restless and reveal the discrimination that still exists. Many small-size shoe makers are actually "dowa".
Not so many months ago JT had published a feature on this shoe tariff quota, and it was a very good job in explaining things as they are. If you are interested, do a little research in JT's archived articles.
Moderator, am I off-topic ? See, I am saying good things about JT...

Just been doing some reading up on this. Maybe I was way off base. The knife was probably a Tanto (short Japanese katana)the cops think. It was hard and sharp enough to cut through rib bones, and penetrated 16.5cm inwards, the press is reporting from police releases. So possibly a lone attacker with an agenda.

they'd have more luck if they had seen his bicycle tyre treads, it's a specialty

What a ridiculous title. No relevance whatsoever. Shame on you JT

What's the point of releasing this information? So the murderer would know that he/she should burn and destroy his/her shoes?
bdiego at 04:57 AM JST - 22nd November
What's with all the high horse drama here? If the shoes only match Chinese made shoes, that's relevant info. The problem is the police shouldn't be giving out any specific info, unless they're absolutely convinced they can get a solid lead out of it. There's plenty of evidence the police are racist, but this is more an example of evidence the police are incompetent.

Japanese robbers and potentially killers are known to wear slippers during action. This is definitely a foreigner. At all airports, ports arround the country, put a picture of the sole just in case he wants to escape.

oh my gosh - it`s the chinese - AGAIN!!! what a bunch of buffoons.
isthistheend at 07:55 PM JST - 22nd November
O.J. did it. If the shoes don't fit, you can't commit. Why mention only the shoes? What isn't made in China these days? Its ridiculous reporting like this that has me only glancing once a week or so at this edition, as I find more meaningful sources to spend my time reading.
MikeBarrymore at 08:06 PM JST - 22nd November
However did it was evil and nasty. I was having a lovely day and thsi awful news has made me cry.
I hope they catch the beastly person who did this and lock them up.
The world is so scary nowadays.

A terrible crime, obviously A japanese by the nature of the crime.
Oh yes, some Japanese and Japanophiles may try deflect the attention onto foreigners, but what wdoes one expect?
Japan, is a crime ridden society, and it shall become worse as a decade long depression looms and poverty is widespread.
mushroomcloud at 12:28 AM JST - 27th November
Koizumi, the Japanese national charged with this crime, must be laughing out loud with this China made shoe hysteria.
I'm sure Koizumi might then twist things and blame the crime on being instigated by his China made shoes.
Great reporting, JT.
