Police extend claim period for rewards in 3 unsolved murder cases

TOKYO —

The National Police Agency says that rewards for information leading to arrests in three high-profile murder cases will be extended by another year.

One of the cases is that of a 16-year-old schoolboy who was murdered on the street in Kobe in October 2010, for which the reward is 3 million yen. Another is the unsolved murder of a family of four in Setagaya, Tokyo, on Dec 30, 2000. A couple, their 8-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, were found murdered in their home. The reward in that case is 10 million yen—the highest reward ever offered.

The third case is that of Manami Shimizu, 15, who was murdered in Toyota, Aichi Prefecture, in 2008.
