Should be run by JSDF with authority over National Police. Many of these attacks aren't criminal they're foreign government military attacks.

Japan will launch a 140-strong nationwide police task force this week

Japan 140 police task? You've got be kidding!!

Japan is not taking these cyber attacks very seriously. These are done professionally by the Chinese Military and Russian KGB. They can shut down a whole country of Japan and this should be treated as a national security issue by JSDF IT special task force..

omfg Jgov has got no idea what there up against, cyber crime is huge and china alone has 100,000 strong internet censors just to control the internet in China image how many of those are involved in overseas cyber attacks. 140 strong is pathetic. like using a mouse to fight a gorilla. LOL

time will tell, Japanese does have state-of-the-art hardware and software to counter most types of attacks at the carrier level and I would say all major companies and data centres have much more than the average Asian facility. That said if they were targeted how long could Japan hold out and if Japan falls most of Asia falls because a good quantity of the submarine super highway cables run through Japan is one form or another.

True. Japan does not understand how highly sophisticated these cyber attacks are.

The statement said the foreign language experts would “gather information on cyber attacks from abroad."

Translation: they're going to get them to browse 4chan.
