Woman arrested over death of 2-year-old daughter in Aichi

AICHI —

Police said Friday they have arrested a hospitalized woman who claimed to have killed her 2-year-old daughter at their apartment in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, on Thursday.

According to a TV Asahi report, a male relative contacted the police claiming to have received a call from the woman, in which she reportedly said that she had killed her daughter.” When police arrived at around 10 p.m., they found the baby girl unconscious. She was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead a short time later. An autopsy Friday revealed that the child had been strangled.

Police said the woman had ingested drugs and was not lucid when they arrived at the apartment. It was also reported that no obvious marks or bruises were found on the girl’s body. The woman is now undergoing treatment in hospital, TV Asahi reported.

Police questioned the woman who admitted to causing daughter’s death.

As sad as these reports are, at least they are constant.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like I've been seeing a lot of these stories lately .. what's going on in Japan?!

This is happening too often, one after the other little ones are dying by the very hands that should be caring and protecting them.Suspended sentence? Yes , I reckon I know where I would like to suspend them from

This is Japan. What would a week in Japan be without a story of: a parent killing or abusing their child or vice versa, a cop stealing, a woman getting groped, an elderly motorist hitting and killing some people, an earthquake... am i forgetting something?

Yeah...you forgot someone jumping off a building, child being thrown from a car while their mama and papa are safely buckled in, crazed salaryman killing someone with a kitchen knife, typhoon, mudslide, tsunami...and the list goes on.

What drug exactly? Police should be more informative.

Sounds like a mild attempt at murder-suicide. Or perhaps in a warped kind of way she was seeking sympathy to mitigate what she did. Disregarding mental illness I can hardly think of a more selfish action.

I'm guessing she'll end up getting a slap on the hand, maybe a suspended sentence or something. There are few details but does anyone know what punishment the courts usually give out in similar cases?

Many posters believe this kinda crime happens in every country. I will nod yep but not so frequent like japan, almost every week. Its soo common here.

Yesterday, my husband and I did volunteer work at a children's home in Tokyo. We got to play with the 3 to 5 year old age group. the kids were so cute, adorable, and very loving. I wish I could of taken them all home!

I also know that they're there because of some sort of abuse or abandonment. My worries were that they get returned to the same abusive environment. And to see this story just breaks my heart. Poor little angel is dead because mama can't handle life.

    RIP little angel.

This kind of article does appear too often in the Japanese news, but should we blame the perpetrators or should we blame the society? There is very little in the way of social service support and unless these youngish parents have their own parents to fall back on they are virtually on their own. I think most foreign people are aware of the lack of emotional maturity in Japanese 20 somethings (and beyond). They are just products of their environment and a society of 130 million strangers.

I've learned there is nothing sweeter than sleeping with your babies and feeling their breath on your cheeks. And, when your newly born holds your pinky finger in his/her tiny little fist....you are hooked for life!! Then you turn a page and read these atrocities done to them - it's downright wrong no matter what !!!!! Such an unsalibrious society.

    RIP sweet angel....!!!
