Reward? Mecha tsumaranai ! Govt seems acting too smart...neither offering full time job, nor part time job...seeking volunteers?!

  • romulus3 at 11:09 AM JST - 17th April

    Informants can either remain anonymous

    how do you get paid?

  • Desiderata1967 at 11:41 AM JST - 17th April

Typical Japanese solution to a problem....throw money at it!

A yak pulled a gun on a friend of mine and later the police that turned up the other day in my building, but as the Yak was actually duty editor for Kyodo news it was reported from Kyodo news (and in turn on this site) as "assaulted" with no one injured. Tell that to my friend with a broken shoulder and bruise all over his face, or the policeman with a cut across the top of his eye.

thats easy money! just write down all the pimped out white benzos number plates and give them to koban. chances are they gonna find a gun in there somewhere.

But if some police officer has a friendly Yak connection, it might be that you also receive a second reward, well informal and anonymous.

Some of the fanciful adventurous tales told by JT posters here is quite amusing. Regardless, I think it's a good way to get guns off the street. It's just one option, not a be all end all solution to the problem of guns. Where I live they regularly offer guns for cash deals. Hardly new concept to do so in Japan.

You can say that again! To some posters here, every male taller tham themselves is a "Yak". And the guys handing out tissues on the streets, and the guy staring at them on the Yamanote line, etc etc... :P

Yep, I wonder how much I could get by simply reporting every loudspeaker van and yak that I see. I have a funny feeling that the cops wouldn't really bother following those up.

sarcasm123...wonderful insight, as usual. You truly have your finger on the pulse of the ex-pat community here. Care to explain how it relates, however, even remotely to the article on handguns?

  • nutsagain at 02:06 PM JST - 17th April

I'm not really interested at all in the 'how' concerning the riddance of this menace. Just as long as they are taken out from the society, the means doesn't really bother me. I personally think the best solution would be for the government to put all gangsters on an island, keep them supplied with ammo, broads and liquor. Pretty soon they'd wipe themselves out. Hooray...

  • nandakandamanda at 02:38 PM JST - 17th April

You wouldn't get your reward without any discovery of a handgun. Come to think of it, the cops will not want to go in there unless they are 100% sure there's a gun in there. Your proof will have to be pretty conclusive.

And what if they find other things in there that are not on the warrant?

  • DXXJP at 07:07 PM JST - 17th April

They dont need a warrant to search you or your property in japan. They dont even have to wake you up while they search your house at 5 am. A guy I knew found this the hard way.

As for proof what do we need a keitai sashin to convince them. Come on I have seen the local yac accost a guy in the parking lot of the police station. The cops just stared out the window.

  • xxBiscuitxx at 11:04 AM JST - 18th April

You could make a ton of money off this policy by importing crap chinese handguns and then "informing the police" This is ripe for a scam.
