So no one will be actually looking at the cameras, no software can replace a human eye. What a waste of money

By the time such police are informed of such "violent acts", and turn up, the perpetrators will be long gone. Could the system tell the difference between patting someone on the back and putting a pointed object between their shoulder blades?

The 2 million+ surveillance cameras in the UK have done nothing to deter crime, just increase the sales of balaclavas and hoodie jackets. The average "Brit" is estimated to be recorded by 360 cameras/ day, while Japan has 363 cameras in the whole of the country.

Translated this means they will be pointing the local camera on my street into my office window more often!

Cameras are a waste of time in Japan - especially given the crappy record of J-cops to actually catch murderers, drug dealers and rapists. But I guess the bicycle theft rate will go down.
