Fujiwara, who had admitted to the charges and sought leniency, immediately appealed the ruling.

I bet he did, must have thought the apology would get him off. 4 years, I'm pleasantly surprised

Seems like there's a false labelling scandal every week.

    "cheap chicken products"

Yesterday Family Mart was selling their fried chicken for 100 yen.

Chicken, eel, rice, milk! The great food conspiracy in Japan is happening. That and suspended sentences. It took two years to figure this case out, I hope the sentencing dosnt take as long.

All the people I know who have been ranting for the past two years about how much safer and more trustworthy Japanese food is have more or less stopped talking. For those who haven't I enjoy pointing out what they probably haven't seen in the Japanese media. My point is that Japan is NO safer than anywhere else, and in fact it's probably much worse than anyone knows , or the Japanese CARE to know, about. I mean, in China a man was executed over the whole 'cardboard in the dumplings' scandal; in Japan they get suspended sentences all the time. I'm happy this guy at least got a little bit of a slap on the wrist for adding to the problem.

    Yo Smithy,

I am not yet in the last 2 years, in various pseudonyms, to see a post in support of local produce, however I agree about the fact that it must be worse than anyone knows.

I am really bothered by all these food scandals here recently. We all have to eat. If we can´t trust the food we buy is what it is supposed to be, where does that leave us?
