I reckon if Hello Kitty ran for the next election 90% of the Japanese public with rather vote her in than the LDP or DPJ. The Japanese public must just about be ready to take to the streets with pitchforks, flame torches and chamber pots.

If all this really is dodgy and Ozawa's secretary knew it, Ozawa must quit as party leader. Simple as that. Sounds as if a few LDP people are going to get caught up in this one as well, though, if Ozawa has the sense to mention a few of their names loudly enough.

'May question... Why not get straight into it instead stretching JT and the rest of media legs. Can you trust a 'politician??? ?’ I sure don't.

The arrest on Tuesday of Mr Takanori Okubo is a damaging blow to the DPJ and to its leader Mr Ichiro Ozawa. It is also a boon to the floundering LDP, giving it some hope of being able to claw back some much-needed public support. However, it remains to be seen whether Mr Ozawa will be forced to resign, or whether the scandal will be forgotten by the time the next General Election is held. The LDP itself needs to handle this issue carefully, as two of its own lawmakers, including former Prime Minister Mr Yoshiro Mori and METI Minister Mr Toshihiro Nikai, were recipients of Nishimatsu funds. Still, the prime focus is on Mr Ozawa, who may yet be brought low by his having accepted 21 million yen (or US$212,000) in exchange for allegedly helping Nishimatsu win dam construction contracts. Mr Ozawa, in an effort of damage control, has promised to return the money, should it be proven to be tainted. It remains to be seen, however, whether such an attempted mollification of public anger with DPJ will restore the Opposition's popularity.
