wouldn't it make more sense just to close the court room? On the other hand, why does this joker need to be tried in front of a jury anyway? He is as guilty as the day is long and it his court appearance is only for sentencing.

One simple solution would be to take this guy out the back (the loading bay where they bring in prisoners) and just slot him out of hand.

What a dangerous and shortsighted precedent to set so early in the evolution of the lay juror system.
This babysitting mindset in government would rather avoid the problem altogether, rather than putting the effort into creating safeguards and working to legislate against such possible reprisals.
Is the justice system incapable of protecting those charged with the task of upholding the law?

oh gee, if they are afraid of reprisals, maybe they shouldn't try them at all!

It is good to see this defacto admission that police are worthless in protecting jurors, arresting syndicate members, and protecting the public in general!
Blue_Tiger at 08:32 PM JST - 19th July
Why do I get the feeling that these men would be aquitted, and the reprisals would come against the police, the prosecutors, or both?

If you all think the Japanese yakuza are just like your average Tanaka, you have another thing coming. This crazy, violent idiots, do not care about their own lives, and I am sure that they dont care too much either for the jurors etc.. it would be nice to have a system where the yakuza could never be able to see the jurors, maybe have some of that magic mirror, and make sure only the jurors see the scum bag yakuza, but never the other way around. A good yakuza is a dead yakuza, may they all burn in hell for all of eternity!

I agree with this guy. It'd be a very bad start to the new system to let the gangsters know that they have some sort of control over the outcome. I say he should be tried by a jury of peers and those jurors should be fully protected by their government. If every gangster had the thought that "if they put me in front of a jury I can win my threatening them" then the system is doomed from the start and the gov't may as well save tax payer cash by not even going on with it. So my opinion is STAY THE COURSE.
