No mention of market value and total damage that much quantity can cause.

Just how big was the container? At first they say it was 2mm by 2mm, and then later 25cm by 40 cm. That's a big discrepancy. Of course, I realise that initially they are referring to the iridium, but that's not what it says.

WHAT radioactive substance is it? Nothing like getting HALF the facts right! Blows my mind, the lack of security here. I recently received a package by mistake, delivered on a Takyuubin scooter, with a little yellow radiation sticker on the side and a 0120 number to call if I felt unwell. The substance was 5g of lab grade Polonium 210 for testing PET scan machines! On a scooter! In the rain! Who needs terrorists? We have incompetents!

Sounds Al-Qaeda's new strategy is to flood the market with cheap spark plugs, putting Denso and NGK out of business. The plot thickens...

i hope some nut case doesn't open the lid on the Ginza line one morning.

It does sound like an Al Qaeada strategy indeed. The word is they opt for soft targets due to the stringent security of the US and Europe... I hate to say this but we may all soon find out as the nuclear genie has been out of the bottle for some time. It's not a matter of 'if' but rather 'when'. Sorry for the glum post.

The stainless steel hermetic container, 25cm in diameter by 40cm long & weighs 17 kg bearing the iridium 192 — 2mm in diameter by 2mm long. Kind of obvious to me.

This is why we must be strong and resolved against the terrurusts around the world, especially Iraq. They can strike anywhere, anytime.

    Or something.

  • conqueror_of_Uranus at 02:39 PM JST - 8th April

Not enough to kill/harm instantly, not possible to bring to critical mass for weapons.... The only thing whoever stole it is going to get is lukemia and rotting fingers and eye-sockets.

    Can be used for blackmail...

or could be added to some Russian exile's tea...

  • conqueror_of_Uranus at 03:58 PM JST - 8th April

You'd think Russia and it's enemies have thier own stock of "Nukeylar materials".

I'm guessing it's a mad scientist who needs it to create a time machine and fix the current world's problems..... or win a billions on the stock market. ;P

What kind of damage would this do if someone were to open it on a crowded subway line? Would we be talking hundreds of deaths and seriously ill people, or just death for the perp and those standing next to him? Or just everybody in that coach gets cancer in about 5 years time?
