Lets see the same thing happening to an US ship and I guess we will have WW III starting.

And what does Whale hunting have to do with a Russian island dispute. Guess anything can be used by the anti-whalers to voice their opinion.

Amen Zen, Ossan and others. Interesting how those who were quick to blame Japan for the Taiwan/Japan boating incident are for the most part strangely silent on this one. Indeed if this had happened to a U.S. vessel it would be WW3. Unbelievable how the Russians fired on and killed a crew member, and took the boat and sold it. Aggressive act after aggressive act towards Japan, and no one cares, or it's Japan's "fault." If I was Japanese officials I would be like, turn over the boat or else. Reality is that Japan is far from the war mongering, right wing militaristic power the naysayers like to say it is. This shows that when push comes to shove Japanese officials are wimps.

Why is it in the crime section? Japan took the island from Russia then lost it during the 2nd world war. I mean, com'on! You wanted to play big and you lost big. Assume it now. "I'm sorry... Can I have them back?" doesn't work. This is not a school playground. Japan does not own the island anymore. This was a territory violation. 1 crab guy paid the ultimate price that's the sad part.

Are you sure about that? I think Japan got the southern half of Sakhalin and the connected islands in the Russo-Japanese War of 1904. They didn't exasctly "take it" since that war wasn't fought there.

Ossan: They shared it, the ceded it against Kuril islands, took (received if you prefer) the half back after the finally completly lost it.

Kinda like when the Romulans seized the Enterprise and wanted to sell it to make some extra cash.
