If I was the woman, I would have thrown the husband.

If it was a family boat, I'm glad she didn't grab a hold of the controls and run them over.

DudeDeuce was making the point that posters here seem to think that only Japanese mothers are somehow predisposed to acts of violence towards their children, whereas this Russian woman and a Chinese woman a few months back seem to prove the opposite to be true... or is it that posters here like painting Japanese mothers in a bad light?

Back on topic, and I hope the little boy makes a full recovery after the shock and distress this must have caused.

I've never been to this particular lake, but... really? It's a lake, not a hazardous ocean current or a rapid river. Did she expect that no one on board would be able to swim?

Whether the husband may be partly to "blame" or not, and regardless of the nationalities, the fact remains that the wife threw the kid in the lake, and the husband jumped in to save him.

In these cases of parent/child murder/(attempted) suicide, I always wish that if they're going to do it, thy do the suicide part first. Make fatal decisions for yourself, not for your kids.

Although I'm not condoning her actions, I can imagine the cross-cultural difficulties that she has had to endure. Look at the broader picture, she needs counseling and support.
