Police in Yamanashi Prefecture have have arrested a Russian woman for throwing her 4-year-old son from a pleasure boat while on a cruise at Lake Yamanaka.

According to police, the 33-year-old woman, who lives in Yamanakako, was arrested after she allegedly threw her son off the deck of the boat and into the water at around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, TBS reported.

Police say the woman's Japanese husband jumped into the water to rescue the boy, who was not injured in the incident. The woman was arrested on a charge of attempted murder.

During police questioning, she was quoted by police as saying that she had had a fight with her husband and threw the boy into the water with the intention of killing him and then committing suicide by jumping in herself, TBS reported.

Take care of the wife, they can be the most dangerous weapon known to man.

With your own mother trying to kill you, good luck in life, kid.

Why didn't she jump right in?

russian wife/japanese husband? hmmm...aranged marriage anyone?

you're on a pleasure boat, and you get into a fight with your husband while your kid is around. so you throw your son overboard. makes sense to me.

First thoughts show my prejudices, I guess. I'm wondering if the husband is rather yak-ky.

Glad he was on hand and able to swim, regardless.

If I was the woman, I would have thrown the husband.

If it was a family boat, I'm glad she didn't grab a hold of the controls and run them over.

I foresee a small fortune being spent on therapy/counseling and medication for this boy.

Glad the kid was rescued safely. The crazy moms are going whole hog this week.

She should have jumped in first. That would have solved the problem straight away.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

She was lucky to not have two deaths. Some men don't know how to swim and even that they may jump to safe the children's life.

After a fight, trying to punish the husband by killing their son and then herself?

So people on here who say that only Japanese mothers are crazy are brainwashed.

DudeDeuce... you took the words out of my mouth.

Seems to be open season on children and mothers are holding the weapons.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

she seems to have merged too much into the Japanese woman's psychology.

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

she can kill herself but, its not right to kill someone else over a fight that doesnt have to do with that person.

Selfish Biatch went overboard but stayed on the boat.

I suppose the thought never occurred to you that maybe, just MAYBE, the husband could be to blame ? I somehow do not believe it's just a question of nationality...

DudeDeuce was making the point that posters here seem to think that only Japanese mothers are somehow predisposed to acts of violence towards their children, whereas this Russian woman and a Chinese woman a few months back seem to prove the opposite to be true... or is it that posters here like painting Japanese mothers in a bad light?

Back on topic, and I hope the little boy makes a full recovery after the shock and distress this must have caused.

@Thunderbird2

Oh I understand the point all right ! But nobody ever seems to suspect that some Japanese husbands can also be the heart of the problem...

The kid is safe good news

Yamanakako has that effect on folks. Grim place

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

I've never been to this particular lake, but... really? It's a lake, not a hazardous ocean current or a rapid river. Did she expect that no one on board would be able to swim?

So people on here who say that only Japanese mothers are crazy are brainwashed.

This just proves that it doesn't matter what nationality you are. It's Japan that makes you crazy! (I kid, I kid...)

Funny, isn't it, how all these murderers who kill their innocent children claim that they "intended" to commit suicide... but somehow that part never succeeds?

4 ( +6 / -2 )

To the mods :

You are unbelievable ! I suffered with my violent Japanese husband and my children suffered with their violent Japanese father... Who are you to judge if my comment was "off topic" ???

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Whether the husband may be partly to "blame" or not, and regardless of the nationalities, the fact remains that the wife threw the kid in the lake, and the husband jumped in to save him.

In these cases of parent/child murder/(attempted) suicide, I always wish that if they're going to do it, thy do the suicide part first. Make fatal decisions for yourself, not for your kids.

WTF? How is he to blame for what his wife did to their child?

In what way would a man's or woman's behaviour be a reason for their spouse to try and kill their child? I'm curious.

Drama Queen!

Although I'm not condoning her actions, I can imagine the cross-cultural difficulties that she has had to endure. Look at the broader picture, she needs counseling and support.

@Maria

I could tell you but my comment will just be deleted AGAIN... There IS, however, at least one very good reason...

What is up with the young mothers this is the 5th story in the last 2 weeks I've seen of mother's killing their children intentionally. :(
